A must for all Matrix die-hards, the ULTIMATE MATRIX COLLECTION has landed.
I know you all dashed out, as I did, and bought the films individually, but here is a set to die for. What do you get for your money, and why is it worth ditching your old discs and buying the new ones – well in short you get 10 DVD’s, with over 35 hours including bonus features of over 100 new featurettes, interviews and commentaries which have never been aired.
You get a carboard sleeve, inside the sleeve you find 5 DVD covers as follows:
The Matrix – two discs. The Matrix Reloaded – two discs The Matrix Revolutions – two discs The Matrix Experience - three discs Animatrix – 1 disc Booket – listing scenes to help you find your way around the discs and an introduction from the Wachowski brothers which basically asks the curious to “make up their own damn mind.”
Each of the three films is recorded in a new digital transfer and contain commentaries never before aired as well as a written introduction by the Wachowski Brothers.
THE MATRIX – Two discs
Disc 1 The Matrix The first film of the trilogy takes you into the Matrix. What is the Matrix I hear you ask? It is an alternative reality, complex and difficult to grasp at first, this thought provoking film which will leave you hanging, debating and possibly even arguing with your friends about the meaning of the film, life, or what reality actually is. The cinematography is excellent, the story
line unique and the special effects ground breaking.
Disc 2 The Matrix Revisited A feature length portrayal of the making of the Matrix from its conception, also included on the disc is an audio selection (41 tracks) of over 3 hours of music and much, much, more.
THE MATRIX RELOADED – two discs
Disc 1 The Matrix Reloaded The second part of the trilogy takes you deeper into the Matrix, ties up some of the loose ends from the first film. As each penny drops you will be left in awe thinking “Oh yes” of course that’s what it means. In this film we see more of the matrix itself, and learn of the threat to Zion. Mr Smith continues to track Mr. Anderson (Neo) and again the film leaves you hanging…
Disc 2 The Matrix Reloaded Revisited This disc shows scenes from the car chase, the teahouse fight and more. There are 5 documentaries which lead to a further 21 featurettes and entering the Matrix allows you to view 23 live action scenes which were shot for the video game.
THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS – two discs
Disc 1 The Matrix Revolutions This is the final movie in the trilogy. Starting exactly where the second left off we are thrown back into the Matrix and the power struggle between the human and computer world. We watch as Neo starts to believe and come to a terms with everything which has happened before. The final attack on Zion by the machines gives us the most fantastic fight scene ever filmed. It is awe-inspiring, the overwhelming power of the machines will fill you with fear and you feel small, insignificant and even helpless as you watch the destruction before you. Does Zion survive? You will have to watch it to find out. Is this the conclusion – again, you must decided for yourself.
Disc 2 – Matrix Revolutions Revisited This disc includes scenes from the movie and the final confrontation. You are taken, via 6 pods to documentaries and then a further 28 featurettes.
The Matrix Experience - three discs Disc 1 The Roots of the Matrix This is a deeply philosophical journey. Discussion with many eminent Professors leads you through the minefield of “what was it all about”. Within the discussions there are suggestions of religious overtones and you are introduced to the workings of some of our great philosophers over the years. As you listen to each give their interpretation of the Matrix you will find yourself again wondering at the meaning, you will find added clarity to what you have watched. You will also find yourself asking many, many more questions – not least, does the Matrix stand up, and is the notion of a real Matrix plausible. Most of all, you will marvel at the minds of the Wachowski Brothers and their ability to draw together so many philosophical minds and make them work in such a wonderful way.
Disc 2 Burley Man Chronicles The profiles of those people who put this trilogy together, gives you insight into the people behind the films.
Disc 2 Zion Archive Here you will find artwork, story boards and drawings. Also included are music videos, TV spots and trailers and you are also given the opportunity to go to the ‘Matrix Online’ and explore the future of the Matrix.
Animatrix – 1 disc This disc includes 9 animated films that explore the world of the matrix. Each film animated in a very different and diverse way, and each trying to explain the how and why the Matrix came to be. Are they good – yes, but they are very different. Will you understand? No, you watch the first three and you start thinking that you can see where they are going, but by the end of the ninth you will be just as confused as when you started. They are though, well worth a watch and like the Matrix Trilogy, each time you watch you will learn and understand a little more, and have more questions to ask.
All DVD’s have subtitles available in English, French, Dutch, Italian, Polish, Czech and Hungarian and are all in full colour.
The packaging is excellent, and the quality out of this world. I have to admit I haven’t watched it all yet, 35 hours is too much in one sitting but can honestly say that this box set will take pride of place on my shelf, and will be watched time and time again in an effort to understand the philosophy, and decide whether it could really be.One thing to remember, if you have never seen the Matrix before, is that you will NOT get an answer, but it will make you think. This is not a set for the feint hearted, or those who want a story with a beginning, middle and an end… the Matrix is never ending. It is neither a love story, nor an action movie per se, it is an alternative reality, a fascinating concept of what our reality could be, and scary yet thought provoking. The theory of The Matrix is deeply philosophical, some of the lines are truly thought provoking. You can watch it with 10 other people and you will all have your own theory – this is the wonder of Matrix – and it will undoubtedly prompt full and hearty debate.
Groundbreaking special effects, awesome sets and soundtrack allow this trilogy to stand apart from all others.
The more you watch it the more you learn, and the more you believe, but the less you understand.
Is this me, am I typing this, or is this an illusion, hello… is anyone out there…
Am I alone?

A truly excellent review - I already own this...I sell dvds on ebay but just could not let this one go!
It leaves many questions unanswered...which is good as you can watch it over and over...and come away with differing theories every time.
P.S....it's now down to £28 at amazon...so no excuses!
