Well its here, the 4 year wait through and the Matrix Reloaded steams in to the cinemas. The build up has been very long and people have had very high hopes, and although not utterly disappointing, it does not match up to its prequel.
So the story is pretty much that a quarter of a million sentinels (squirmy squid machines) are digging down into the ground in order to destroy the one remaining ‘free’ humans city Zeon. Well this pretty much sets up the entire film meaning that Neo and his pals must go into the Matrix to receive the prophecy from the oracle. A war must therefore be led against the machines in order to rescue Zion. Neo, being the one, leads the race too recieve the prophecy from the oracle. It is a minority that believes that this will end the war, Morpheous being the strongest believer, but it is what they think is a practical idea seeing that Zion has never been under such threat by the machine world and any alternate way out seems to be the better option rather than fighting. The biggest problem for Neo and pals is the fact that agent Smith is able to multiply himself, and already being far superior to all (except Neo) at fighting this causes major problems. The non
believers of the prophecy also run into problems also as when they make thee first atacks on the setinals, an E.M.P ( electro magnetic pulse) is set off too early hence it does not destroy the targets which means they kill every one on the ship but one person, this person being the traitor to Zion who is left in a koma and the end of the film to lead on to the Matrix Revolutions.
Well although not bad, this story just isn’t as good as that of the Matrix. Sure it is creative but a couple of the scenes are just absolute waffle that is just not in the least bit understandable. Unlike the first film when they keep the plot that has endless potential within limits, this time, there is a more factual, long and complicated approach that would probably need a 4 or 5 watches to understand and even then probably isn’t worth it.
The characters all have different purposes and talents. Neo (Reeves) is the only person who can stand ground against agents and survive, he is therefore vital to lead the battle against the multiplying agent Smiths. Morpheous (Fishburne) is the leader of the religeous army as it were, as he believes that if a prohecy is recieved from the oracle, the war will end, this akes him a very wise character. Trinity (Moss) plays Neo's girlfriend who is willing to go to any means needed to follow Neo and Morpheous to recieve the prophecy from the oracle and carry it out. The Oracle is the know all character who gives the prophecy, you cannot tell if she is good or bad or if she is helping or distrupting. And finnaly agent Smith is a character that no longer seems to have a thirst for the codes to the zion mainframe as he trys to kill the man who knows them but only seems to be out for revenge against Neo who apparantly destroyed him and took away his agent status.
Well the special effects are in a word ‘mesmerising’. The explosions look fantastic and the fighting scenes look extremely good. These special effects may even top those of the matrix which is really saying something.
Unfortunately, the fighting scenes all though very good can seem to drag and those exceeding the 5 minute mark just become plain boring. However the fight with Neo against the agents is extremely enjoyable all the way through. The only problem about this scene is the fact that the reason Agent Smith is able to copy himself is not explained. This rather than confuse, frustrates because it was probably done just as a reason to give Neo a scene when he can really prove just how good modern special effects are. This unfortunately this is the story of the film in that instead of trying to keep with a wonderful mysterious plot everything seems to be done as a reason to cram in some more cool intelligent.
Another bad thing about this film is that it seems like the script was written for a less mature audience, (of which unfortunately at present seems to be more of the population than less, regardless of age) because I was talking to a few groups of friends and they all agreed that when Neo uses different ways of swearing at different television screens it is a really cool part of the film but what it really shows that modern society is more impressed by someone swearing than a sensible plot which is some what depressing.
The cast of this film is pretty good with the extremely charasmatic Keanu Reaves leading the way. Perhaps the most talented actor Laurence Fishburne is unlucky in this as he is not able to carry on with his mysterious wisdom as his script also gets mixed up in the waffle of this film. Carrie Anne Moss is fairly convincing but I think on the whole, most the actors could have pulled there wait a bit more in this film. They could genneraly be more convincing as the sophisticated army leaders. They do not carry enough on screen presence to lift people's convidence in them being the know all and fantastic fighting characters that they play.
So in conclusion the film is very entertaining but not as good as the first, but compared to most films this film is head and shoulders and spiked up hair above the rest so I recommend you see despite a somewhat tattered story.

Advantages: Some effects are stunning, action is breathtaking Disadvantages: Car chase over-rated, terrible orgy scene, comes close to turning into Star Trek at one point
