Hello and welcome to my review of The Mask of Zorro, please note that I am reviewing the Superbit Edition of the film, Superbit being something that I will explain about later in this review.
To give a brief history, the character of Zorro or El Zorro as he was called in the early days was created by Johnston McCulley in 1919 and since the first appearance in comic form; there have been a number of different incarnations over the last 90 years featuring the character of Zorro. From cartoon strips to novels, animated series and live series, Zorro has become a familiar site in most media forms and has been played by many actors including Douglas Fairbanks Jr, Tyrone Power and Guy Williams just to name a few. Looking at the Zorro legacy you can tell how much of an influence the character has been to others. For example Zorro has a secret ...
Advantages: Some entertaining moments Disadvantages: Largely over the top and unbelievable
combined with the comedy moments that make his character so well developed. This does to some extent bring Banderas and Zeta Jones together in terms of acting, but with the plot separating them for the larger part of the film, we lose their on screen chemistry, something which was vital to Mask of Zorro in 1998.
Conclusion
A disappointing sequel to Mask of Zorro, The Legend of Zorro continues a story that didn't necessarily need to continuing.
I ratge this film as 2 stars out of 5, as it is not a complete waste of time, and there are some entertaining moments.

The Storyline

Zorro is a hero to the people; he protects the weak and fights injustices only the rich detest him. After an unfortunate event in his personal life, Don Diego de la Vega (Anthony Hopkins), the man behind the mask disappears from the scene for 20 years. He is brought back into action when he meets Alejandro (Antonio Banderas) a trouble bandit who has such passion and promise He takes it on himself to transforms Alejandro into his successor as a new Zorro to help stop the reign of tyrannical Don Rafael Montero (Stuart Wilson) as well as taking vengeance for destroying his family and ruining his life.
I don't remember ever seeing the original Zorro films, but I am aware of a long heritage of swashbuckling action adventures. For that reason I will attempt to review this version on its own merits ...

Armed with his mask, sword, whip and jet-black stallion, Tornado, the new Zorro embarks on a mission to stop Don Raphael's plot to buy California, set right twenty years of wrongs, bring justice to the people ensnared by Spanish greed, and win the heart of Elma - Don Diego's daughter. Also includes 'The Legend Of Zorro'.
