This British wartime drama focuses on the crucial battle for control of Malta. Lieutenant Peter Ross, a Royal Air Force reconnaissance photographer, gets shot down over Malta while flying to Egypt. Since he cannot get off the island, the British forces there employ his talents to help defeat the Nazis. Ross sets out to find and photograph the location of the Nazi forces attacking the island--but he still finds time to fall in love with Maria, a local girl. The film mixes archival combat footage with documentary-style re-enactments to create a realistic portrayal of the historic battle.

Advantages: The DVD looks and sounds terrific...every element falls into place beautifully... Disadvantages: those who hate Romeo & Juliet probably wont bother to give it a chance...
...When I was growing up, my parents had two great musicals on the same tape---WEST SIDE STORY and GREASE. My mother knew I would enjoy GREASE more than WEST SIDE STORY and when I tried to watch it, I wasn't really impressed with it, and all I remembered from it was it starting with an aerial shot of Manhattan. I wasn't until this year that I saw WEST SIDE STORY in all its glory, after I was recommended to buy the DVD by a very good friend. Some of my favorite musicals have been MY FAIR LADY, 1776, and the SOUTH PARK movie (weird collection, I know), but I was absolutely overwhelmed by the sheer power and energy of WEST SIDE STORY. And now I'm glad to be writing a review on it, as I tell you about the film---and the experiance I had while watching it.

...1942 A Love Story is a Hindi language film aka Bollywood film and as its title depicts it is set in 1942. This was a time of a lot of freedom fighting taking place in India against the British who had been in rule for quite some time.
PLOT SUMMARY
Naren is the rather spoilt son of the rich Diwan Hari Singh who is famous for sucking up to the British who are ruling over India.
