The Magical World of JK Rowlingis an early bid to cash in on the fresh wave of ... more
Potter-mania that's about to break in the wake of the first big-screenHarry Potter. Fair enough, except that the makers of this documentary are operating under certain minor disadvantages: they've got no material, and nothing to say. As a result, some fairly desperate padding has gone on. For all that, even though the film runs a mere 39 minutes, it still feels painfully overstretched. For a start, they evidently couldn't get hold of JK Rowling herself. This isn't too surprising--after some bad experiences with the press following the success of the firstHarry Potterbook, she virtually never gives interviews (she took her revenge inHarry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which features an obnoxious tabloid hack who meets a very unpleasant fate). The filmmakers make do with excerpts from her speech at the 1999 British Book Awards, interspersed with interviews with critics, bookstore assistants, school kids and teachers. This is all just about as exciting, and illuminating, as it sounds. The film's biggest scoop is a family who knew Rowling when she was a girl, and whose surname is--wait for it--Potter! Not even the most avid HP fan will get much from this limp effort. Sit tight and wait for the film. --Philip Kemp

Advantages: hard to put down, well written, great author Disadvantages: last in series:-(
him.
In this seventh and final book by J.K.Rowling, Dumbledore has given Harry the dark, dangerous and seemingly impossible task of locating and destroying Voldemort.
Harry has two close friends called Ron and Hermione, who have all been together from the beginning of the first year;
Ron is the sixth child in the Weasley family to go to Hogwarts, his five older brothers have also attended/attending the school, his sister Ginny is a year younger and started when Ron was in year 2. His family is well known around the wizarding world and his father works in the 'Ministry of magic.'
Hermione is not from a magical family and therefore referred to as a 'muggle', as it's all to do with their blood line. She has magical powers, so is therefore accepted at Hogwarts, she is very prim and proper, likes to work hard, read a lot and think she ...
Advantages: Great book from cover to cover Disadvantages: nil
I had the books (1 to 4) at least a year before I read them and I owned them a few years after they'd originally become famous. It actually didn't read this first book until I'd actually seen the first film, but then I was hooked, I had to read it, and I'm certainly glad I did. I found it to be a must better read than watching the film as I read it continuously from start to finish, barely putting the book down and you will have the same problem as soon as you pick this book up too!
I'm not going to go into too much detail regarding HarryPotter etc (but that is generally known world wide anyway). This book in particular within the series goes through Harry's first year at Hogart's school of magic and Harry's introduction to the mystical world and his mystical foe. You'll get to read and get introduced to this world too, get to ...
Advantages: Good Story, Easy to read. Disadvantages: Too young, badly written, cliched, full of broken metaphors, not as captivating as it was.
HarryPotter and The Philosophers Stone was first read by myself when i was about 10 years old, and to be honest i loved it! It was new and exciting, full of magic and enthusiasm, i even wished that on my own 11th birthday i would receive a letter, even though i knew it wasn't real.
However, now that I am 16, i feel that HarryPotter books have somewhat lost the edge they used to have. The writing is too easy to follow and it fails to keep me captivated as it did when i was younger. Also, although i mean no offence, the writing is not that good, it is repetitive and cliched. The story itself is fantastic and a work of genius, this is shown by the films, however the books are rubbish. I find that as the books went a long they di appeal more to the older teenager. But the Philosophers Stonme, is now, too boring.
So, although the book is ...
