Mad Max is the story of Police Officer Max (Mel Gibson) and his turbulent look into the future.
The first of the three films is set close to the present day where society is collapsing and gangs rule the roads. The only people willing to stand up to them are the few Policemen that try to keep order. However one gang seeks revenge for the death of one of their own, and Max is the target of this violent vengeance. When max loses the closest people to him it's the last straw, now max is mad and he will stop at nothing until the vengeance is his.
The second in the three films takes an unusual twist, further into the future the earth has witnessed Global Nuclear War and all that is left is desert and the few survivors that roam the wilderness, the gangs still rule the roads and fuel is more valuable then gold. A group of survivors defend one of the last oil refineries and suffer unending attacks by the local Gang Lord. They need help and there's only one man who can do it.
The third and final instalment sees Max continuing to survive in the desert until he arrives at Barter Town, here all the scum and villains he has come to despise have come together to form there own society based on simple rules and ruled by Aunty (Tina Turner). But when another local figure head challenges for rule of Barter Town, Aunty seeks a person to solve all her problems, but the person she finds isn't at all what she bargained for.
I find films about the future very interesting some are believable and some are not. However when I watched Mad Max I found a film that not only pleased me with its action and adventure but also scared me in a sense that this type of future could actually happen.
I find it hard to find any other post apocalypse story that compares with this, and although the third film was given a bigger budget and suffered for it don't let it take away any of the goodness that the whole trilogy gives you.
I thoroughly recommend this to any one especially if you haven't bought the individual DVD sets. For the big fans though it is limited on extras but still a good buy.
