I've been waiting for the extended set since the first movie 'Fellowship Of The Ring' came out. Having read the full works from Tolkien over 30 years ago as a schoolchild I had always hoped that one day this would go to film. The first few attempts by the film world to capture Middle Earth was dissapointing to say the least so when these came out I was champing at the bit to see them. The extended versions are what seems to 'make' each movie by filling in little gaps that you just KNEW needed explaining. I've yet to sit and watch the whole extended trilogy in one sitting but believe me it's on the schedule..!!. Many scenes in the movies were not in the books and Jackson altered characters in ways to enhance the movies I guess bearing in mind that part of his audience that had never read the books and to appeal to all types of cinemagoers. He succeeded in all ways and turned this into a true blockbuster series with the added delight that we are now to be promised 'The Hobbit' at some time in the near future. It's not a suprise to see why these movies won Oscars, they were amazing and Tolkien would I'm sure be terribly happy with the outcome even though some straying was done. The set comes with many additional DVD's about the making of the film from all different angles from photography and story boards to details on the horses used and what happened to them, (horses are a special interest of mine). All in all I think every person on the planet should own a copy of LOTR either in book form or this wonderful boxed set of DVDs as this is a story that will go on for many more generations to come as children grow and delve into the realms of fantasy. Wonderful, marvellous, get it and be stunned at how good a film can be and how magical a story. SIGH
