This Trilogy box set is a must for any avid lover of the story of 'Lord of the Rings'. Not only does it include the complete 'Director's Cut' of all three films, but contains a massive amount of behind the scenes extras on the making of the whole complete film.
The extended versions give the story a more fluid and comprehensive representation of the original story as written by Tolkein, compared to the original theatrical releases. This is particularly noticeable from the second film onwards as I find the cinema release of 'the Two Towers' a little lacking in detail. This version is extremely long, however, being more than 11 hours in length in total which might put off some potential buyers.
The special effects are mindblowing and the music is breathtaking. There are memorable performances by all the actors, especially by Andy Serkis who played the remarkable 'Gollum'. Peter Jackson highly deserved his Oscar for creating a film of excellent quality which seems lacking in many films of this era.
The extras are extensive, interesting and the most complete behind the scenes footage I have ever seen. There are six extra disks devoted to the extras. The extras are divided into categories or can be played in one go. They include interviews with the director, the crew and the cast members and go into extraordinary detail about the film, the making of, the characters, how they made the costumes, weapons, the sets, where each set was filmed (primarily in new Zealand), how they designed the creatures; the editing process, the music.... the list is endless. It really does give you an insight into the sheer volume of work involved in making such a long film. It did take them six years to make all three films after all!!!!
A true masterpiece!!!!!!

Your op was well-written and I do like the sound of the extras (I like to find out about the making of all the different bits that went into the film) but you could also expand on what you have written here, giving a bit more information. Welcome to Ciao by the way, I will look out for your reviews!
