It's three hours long and you'll enjoy every minute. This edition has had ajust over 40 minutes of extra footage included. The Two towers starts where the fellowship of the ring finishes with the fellowship going it's separate ways. Frodo and Sam heading for Mordor, the other two hobbits taken captive and Gimli, Legolas and Aragorn in hot pursuit. If you have read the book you will appreciate the extra scenes which have been added.
This installment of the trilogy introduces us to Treebeard and the ents of fangorm forest. We see the peopl of Rohan, who are under threat from the corrupted Saruman.
On their way to Mordor Sam and Frodo get help from an unexpected source.. Gollum. We learn more about him and see his kind side, Smeagol come out, but is he really helping them:.
The two Towers sees the first great battle of the trilogy at Helm's Deep, the fortress of Rohan. The action in these scenes is excellent and has been very well thoughtout.
The Lord of the rings is an amazing one of a kind film and for that reason the huge amount of extra features is more than justified. Peter Jackson has made a great job of documenting every little thing that happened during the filming and it appears he has included all of it on these extended discs.
One massive criticism of these extended editions is the rather rude cut at the end of disc one. In the fellowship this is handled quite delicately with a fade out. In the two towers however the cut is nowhere near as subtle.
The commentaries are a big plus point and are well worth a listen. They are not quite as intrusive as other dvd commentaries.
This edition comes with 2 discs full of special features. I won't list all of them as they are available online. The best feature has to be the production of the weapons used in the movie. This takes you into weta workshops and you see how the orcs and Uruk hai and their weapons are made and designed.
The translation of the Lord of the Rings from book to film is also discussed. This will be of more interest to people who have read the book than not, as someone who has read the books I always find this section of discussion interesting. This topic is discussed on each extended edition in the trilogy, so unless you are interested in the particular adaptations in each movie you might start to tire of this a little.
There are also some generic extra like sound designs which if you've already watched on the fellowship of the ring, you won't find very interesting.
The collector's edition (the one with the statue) comes with an extra disc documenting the production of Gollum. The technology used to create Gollum was state of the art and has been copied recently in I Robot to create the robot with feelings.
Overall The two towers extended edition is just as good as the fellowship of the ring. Definitely worth spending the extra on the extended edition. It currently sells for about £15 online and it well worth it. If you're really into your LOTR then I can recommend the collector's edition as well which will set you back around £30.
Thanks for reading

Advantages: still as epic in scope and visuals, great acting, final battle is atmospheric and affecting, extra footage fleshes the story out nicely Disadvantages: I still didn't find it quite as magical as the first
