Plot:
When last we left Frodo and Sam Gollum was plotting to have them killed by Her... We soon learn he is referring to a giant spider named Shelob who chases and eventually catches Frodo. Sam discovers his friends "dead" body and watches as he is carried away by the orcs. After a daring rescue the two head into Mordor to end their quest but even the best laid plans...
Gandalf and Pippin ride for Gondor to discover a city preparing for war, Gandalf tries in vain to get Denethor to light the beacons that will call for aid from Rohan and failing this him and Pippin take matters into their own hands as Saurons armies descend upon the Gondorian city of Minis Tirith, with Denethor driven mad by the death of Boromir it is up to Gandalf to lead his men into battle
Aragorn meanwhile remains in Rohan with Legolas, Gimli and Merry. He tries to persuade Theodon to go to Gondors aid only to receive the response where was Gondor when we needed them. However once a signal arrives from Gondor Theodon agrees but with far fewer men than needed Aragorn realises he must call for aid from an unlikely source, the paths of the dead.
As all but Frodo and Sam converge for battle at Minis Tirith is time running out...
Soundtrack: Inspirational at some parts and really lends weight to some of the more emotional and dramatic scenes

Overall: A new version of the third installment includes 50 minutes of never-before-seen footage incorporated into the film. (approx. 250 minutes) retailing at the moment for around £20. This is by far my favourite film out of the entire trilogy the tension builds and builds into dramatic battle scenes and emotional heart tugs. The ending dragged out a little bit with many people thinking the film had finished when it hadn't. This was dissapointing in that a large chunk of the ending of the book was dropped even from the extended version and perhaps this would have been a better use of the ending half an hour.
Overall an excellent film that could more than likely be enjoyed even by people who had not seen the first two, although obviously it is better when you know the whole history of the characters.
This trilogy should be watched and appreciated by all!
Advantages: fantastic film superb extras Disadvantages: none
Return of the king is the third instalment of the fantastic lord of the rings trilogy. It continues the story exactly where we left off in the two towers ,beginning with more of golems story we find frodo and sam being led into mordor buy golem and Aragorn and gandalf arrive at Isenguard.
This third film in detail finishes off frodos story and the destruction of the ring with the same outstanding quality of the other 3 films, all the original cast ... ...even a cameo from the director Peter Jackson who appears as a pirate that Aragorn and his army attack.
The film is amazing enough to make you want to go out and buy it but another fantaastic thing you get with this box set is the extras,Peter Jackson but a massive amount oftime into these featuretes and they usually last longer than the film but are so worth it ,you can find out about Frodos last scene and how peter kept maing him do it over and ...

Advantages: Storytelling at its best, gripping right to the end. Disadvantages: A rather drawn out ending.
...with a friend,20 minutes into the film my bladder decided it was time for relief. My body thought otherwise and I managed a good three hours, legs crossed so as not to miss anything from the thrilling climax.Throughout the picture my emotions were up and down........One minute I was on the verge of breaking down in tears and don't forget I'm a bloke by the way.The next heroic deeds had my heart racing and squirming in my seat with anticipation.
Epic ... ...two still up his sleeve.Although the end did seem to stretch out for a good twenty minutes or so and the ending was not true to the book,I find myself even now pining for more Frodo,Gandalf and Golem. The extra minutes are a great bonus and ties everything up nicely if you havn't read the book.Come on Peter make the hobbit pleeeeeeeaaaaassssse. ...

THE RETURN OF THE KING, the third and final film in Peter Jackson's THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, finds Middle-earth on the cusp of great change. Weary hobbits Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Sam (Sean Astin) venture further into the dark realm of Mordor, guided by the increasingly desperate Gollum (Andy Serkis), the two-faced former owner of the Ring that Frodo must destroy in the fires of Mount Doom. Meanwhile Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and Pippin (Billy Boyd) contend with the deranged ruler Denethor (John Noble) at the once-mighty city of Minas Tirith, as Merry (Dominic Monaghan) joins Eowyn (Miranda Otto) and the Riders of Rohan to hold back the forces of Sauron. Amidst the chaos, Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) must rise to his destiny, aided by Legolas (Orlando Bloom) and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) in assembling allies for a massive battle that will decide the fate of Middle-earth. With RETURN, Jackson brings J.R.R. Tolkien's world-renowned tale to a stunning conclusion. As with THE TWO TOWERS, the director deftly weaves various storylines together in one remarkable scene after another. Spectacular visuals complement Jackson's sharp focus on the characters and their emotional battles. While the special effects help to create huge battles and frightening creatures on a previously unseen scale, they never outshine the excellent ensemble of actors who bring the heart of the story home. A truly astounding work of filmmaking, THE RETURN OF THE KING skillfully concludes one of the greatest trilogies in cinema history.
