I've watched the Lord of the Rings Trilogy so many times I know some of the lines by heart. It is officially one of the best movies I have seen made so far for this part of the 21st century. How could I not have this DVD?! ;)
People keep complaining about how long the extended version is, but I assure you its excellence completely makes up for the time. The effects are great, the acting is great, the script is great, the storyline is great, the soundtrack is great, the costuming is great, the makeup, great...Am I leaving out anything?
When I first watched this movie I had no idea who J. R. R. Tolkien was, neither did I hear of Lord of the Rings; but I was so awed by this wonderful movie(not just Legolas ;) ) and I decided to do my research and watch it again and again. Each time I watch it, there's something there that I haven't noticed before, and it never ever gets boring.
The movie is basically on the story of Bilbo handing down the ring to Frodo his nephew who realises he must destroy the ring in the fiery pit of mordor at the council of Elrond Half Elf in Rivendell. A fellowship is formed consisting of Legolas Greenleaf crowned prince of Mirkwood, Aragorn future king of Gondor, the dwarf Gimli, Boromir of Gondor, Gandalf the Grey, and the hobbits Merriodac (Merry), Peregrin (Pippin), Samwise (Sam) and Frodo to help take the ring to Mordor to where it will be destroyed. Of course, they encounter lots of trouble on the way, such as Crebain of Duneland, Sauron's spies, an avalanche caused by Saruman, orcs in the mines of Moria, a lake monster, a troll and then a balrog, that caused Gandalf the Grey to "fall".
They are plunged into dispair and travel to Lorien where they are met by border guards as well as Haldir and his brothers who nearly shoot them with arrows, and then they are told that the Lord and Lady of th e Golden Wood Celeborn and Galadriel are expecting them and Lady Galadriel tells them what will happen to each one. They are each presented with gifts when leavingand they sail in two boats from Lorien view the Argonath and then stop to rest some time later. Frodo wanders off and Boromir who is haunted by the ring says he is going to collect firewood and ends up betraying Frodo. Legolas senses evil nearby which turns out to be Yrk hai, one of which slays Boromir, while orcs abduct Merry and Pippin. Legolas, Gimili and Aragorn are left after and Legolas tries to go after Frodo and Sam in a boat, but Aragorn stops him.
