I loved this film. I’ve watched it 7 times now and I still don’t get bored. The film has won 5 British Academy Awards including Best Film and Director, which speaks volumes. If you’ve read the book you will probably know the story line already. Cate Blanchett (Galadriel) opens the film with a longer version of these famous words:
Three rings for the Elven Kings under the sky, Seven for the dwarf lords in their halls of stone, Nine for mortal men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne, In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie, One ring to rule them all, one ring to find them, One ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them, In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie.
Basically , the Dark Lord, has gathered to him the rings of power, mentioned in the above, – the means by which he will be able to rule the world. All he lacks in his plan for domination is the Ruling Ring, which has fallen into the hands of the hobbit, Bilbo Baggins. (The leading character in J R R Tolkien’s The Hobbit). In a sleepy village in the Shire, young Frodo Baggins finds himself faced with an immense task, he must leave his home and make a perilous journey across the realms of middle earth to the Cracks of Doom. There he must destroy the ring forever.
In this first installment we travel with Frodo, Sam Gamgee, Merry and Pippin, the 4 young hobbits, to Rivendell where they will meet the rest of the fellowship. They leave behind the lovely Shire and begin on their epic journey. Along the way they have to avoid the Black Riders, sent by Sauron to obtain the ring for him. In Bree, at a local pub, known as The Prancing Pony, they meet Strider, otherwise known as Aragorn. (Viggo Mortensen)He is a ranger, sent by Gandalf, the grey (Ian McKellen) to help protect them on their journey to Rivendell. Once there, they meet their fellowship, Boromir, Captain of Gondor, (Sean Bean) Gimli the dwarf, son of Gloin, (John Rys-Davies) Legolas, elf from Mirkwood (Orlando Bloom) and of course Gandalf, the grey.
We leave the gorgeous Rivendell and follow their journey to the Great River Anduin where we witness their first main encounter with the Uruk-hai, a force sent by Saruman, the white to destroy the fellowship. The results of which separate the group for the rest of the journey, setting the scene for the next film, The Two Towers.
The special effects are outstanding, Peter Jackson has recreated Middle Earth from our minds eye and made it real, J R R Tolkien would be proud. Everything about this film spells excellent, from the costumes and make up to the brilliant choreography of the fight scenes. The suspense is really built up, especially when the Black Riders are close by. There are some amazing fight sequences, the memorable one for me in this film is when Aragorn strides around the corner of a ruin and is confronted with a horde of Uruk-hai, he then faces them single handedly.
There are also comic moments throughout the film between Gimli, the dwarf and Legolas, the elf. My favourite line has to be when Gimli is faced with falling off a pit he declares to everyone ‘No-Body tosses a dwarf!’ – a joke carried on into the next film. I really would insist on you watching this film. I give it a full 10 out of 10. This is a film that is truly memorable.
After reading a comment wrote about this review (a very nice comment by the way - thankyou) I've been told to tell people to read the book aswell.

Advantages: Excellent film with loads of extras which make the film complete. Disadvantages: It is over 2 disc's so you have to change half way through.
