Little Shop of Horrors -
This version of the soundtrack to the hit musical is from the stage production, which ... more
ended rather differently than the movie: just about the entire cast (except for the backup singers) winds up as lunch for the hungry plant. As a result, this CD lacks the song "Mean Green Mother from Outer Space", which was written for the film. Instead, the recording closes with "Don't Feed the Plants", which is much more in keeping with the spirit of the rest of the musical. Little Shop of Horrors explores a wide variety of musical styles, from the rhumba-inflected "Mushnik and Son" to the I'm-on-Broadway ballads "Somewhere That's Green" and "Suddenly Seymour". The most spirited numbers are those that feature the trio of back-up singers, who perform on the title track "Skid Row", "Da-Doo", "The Meek Shall Inherit" and other numbers with considerable energy. The recording loses something if you haven't actually seen the stage production but hearing this CD will give you an excellent reason to do so. --Genevieve Williams

In this movie Johnathan Haze stars as a really clumsy florist assistant Seymour.
The movie starts with a musical called skidrow. Seymour works in a Skidrow flower shop for his boss Mr Mushkins and as there is very little custom in the store Seymour is at risk of losing his job unless buisness pics up. Seymour brings a strange man eating plant to the store to try and attract buisness and save his job. When the store is closed he is seeing to the plant when he cuts his finger the plants mouth opens and blood drips into its mouth and from that moment the plant starts to grow rapidly. Every night when the store is closed the plant demands to be fed so Seymour cuts his fingers and feeds it but when he runs out of fingers to cut he has to go on a killing spree in the streets of skidrow so that he can feed the plant. The plant grows really large and is put in the window of the flower shop which becomes a major attracton, buisness is booming again and Seymour saves his job but it has come at a really awfull price as now he is a murderer. Things are getting out of hand as every night the plant demands more and he has already killed a dentist to feed it but he has to keep going out to find victims for the plant to eat. Will Seymour be able to stop the plant or will he become plant food himself youll just have to watch this film to find out.
MUSICALS Skidrow Im a dentist Suddenly Semour
CAST Johnathan Haze Jackie Joseph
This is a truly great comedy horror i just hope i never come across a plant that feeds on blood.
In my opinion the film all in all is really fun to watch although i think the acting is quite poor and could do with more action as there is to much comedy but the comedy scenes are really good it does lack actual horror scenes. The music was quite good.Skidrow is all about life in Skidrow and is sung by Jackie Joseph (Audrey) she sings about getting out of skid row. All the songs are really easy to follow as they are all based on scenes in the fil and they are all about the people in the film you dont get many films that have their own songs like this one which i think is the really great part . there is plenty of humour which makes this film great fun to watch but if its action and actual horror your after then maybe this film isnt for you.

Advantages: funny and a must-see Disadvantages: may not be suitable for younger children
...and although I do enjoy the Rick Moranis remake, I do adore this version. Steve Martin is brilliant in the newer one, but Jack Nicholson rivals him for comedy performance in the original. Behind the comedic plot of a giant-talking-man-eating plant that needs more meat as it grows bigger and bigger, the story is rather sad, as poor Seymour tries his best to satisy Audrey ll (the plant) and the girl of his dreams Audrey. A few laughs are definate with ...

Advantages: Good story line Disadvantages: Relatively bad effects
...This musical is an story of 2 lovers one an shy "geeky" Seymour and the outgoing Audrey. However the feelings they have towards each other is brought to the surface by an dangerous money-making human eating plant. The plant, who Seymour named Audrey II, manipulates Seymour into doing things that are not like him.
This film is an definite must-see, with an great storyline and some good vocal performances by Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene. The plant and special effects looks very good, for the time of the movie. The littleshop of horrors is definitley worth £7 and i am a teenager and i think it is great. This film is both for lads and lasses aswell so don't be put off that it is a musical because the storyline is good....

Advantages: A Cult Musical Classic Disadvantages: Not to everybodies taste.
...LITTLESHOP OF HORRORSLittleShop Of Horrors has become a cult movie, a little like Rocky Horror Picture Show, but it started back in 1960 as a very low budget B movie which took Roger Carman only two days to produce and starred a very young Jack Nicholson as a masochistic patient at the dentists.
It was in 1982 that Alan Menken and Howard Ashman got together and transformed the cult movie into a stage show. Keeping the humour of the show Menken wrote the music for it keeping it in the style of the late 50's and the early 60's. The zany lyrics were created by Howard Ashman who sadly passed away at the young age of 40 in 1992 whilst working on the Disney classic Aladdin, such a loss to the music industry.
Well over 2,000 stage performances later in 1984 the musicals producer David Geffen started to move forward in...

Advantages: Alot of extras over the video version. Disadvantages: none i can think of! not available in the uk?
...Before I start, let me clarify, the version of this film I am reviewing is the 1986 Musical version directed by Frank Oz. NOT the 1960 version with Jack Nickelson. I also got the region 1 version. If you can find a region 2 DVD (I find it hard to believe as I searched long and hard!) it may not have all features I mention.
This is a story about a singing plant, a daring hero, a sweet girl and a demented dentist!!! With its outrageous 80s attitude, this musical would probably appeal to similar cult followings as The Rocky Horror Picture Show! The film follows the entertainment that ensues in a local flower shop on Skid Row - Mushnik's Flower Shop. Business is non-existent, but the shop assistant Seymour (Rick Moranis) has been working on a very SPECIAL plant.
Mr Mushnik agrees to display the flower in the window, and business...

Plot: An offbeat horror classic about a Skid Row flower shop employee who creates a weird plant that feeds on human flesh. Jack Nicholson appears in his first film role as a dental patient who thrives on pain.
King of the B's director Roger Corman shot this crazy beat-era classic in a mere two days, but it packs plenty of inspired lunacy and clever bits in its 70-minute running time. Jonathan Haze stars as clumsy assistant florist Seymour, who saves his job in Mr. Mushnik's skid-row flower shop when he brings in a unique man-eating plant. The problem is, it's a very hungry plant--every night it opens its huge jaws and demands to be fed, forcing poor Seymour to take to the street in search of victims lest he disappoint his boss and his adoring girlfriend Audrey (Jackie Joseph). From a zingy script by Charles Griffith, this hilarious black comedy overflows with great ideas and characters: Corman regular Dick Miller plays a hipster who eats flowers, and a very young Jack Nicholson takes a memorable turn as a masochistic dental patient. DRAGNET-style detective Joe Fink (Wally Campo) narrates as he slowly begins to track the killer down. This oft-revived favourite still generates plenty of laughs and chills, deserving of repeat viewings.
