My children loved the first Little Mermaid cartoon, so I bought this on the assumption it would be as good as the first, and if you are unde ten, then it is. Most of the original cast reprise their voiceover roles, even Rene Auberjoinois (Odo in Deep Space Nine) returns as the french chef.
This time around, Ariel is married and older and has a little girl called Melody. To stop Ursula's (the Sea-Witch form the first film) evil sister Morgana from getting at Melody and doing evil sea-witchy things to her, Melody is forbidden from swimming in the sea and is not told of her Mermaid heretige. Needless to say, she disobeys and ends up getting in all sorts of musical, fishy , brightly coloured trouble.
The songs are good, high polish Disney quality, the animation is better than the (now quite old) original, and the new characters (a penquin and a walrus, Morgana and a shrunken shark called Undertow?) are all passablebly entertaining, but this is all from my perspective, and even I, in my jaded, bitter, adult world quite enjoyed this. My kids , however, loved it, and thats probably the main concern of anyone buying this, so go get it, children will lap it up.
Some things that did make me chuckle - The older versions of the characters from the original, Flounder is now three times bigger and has a whole family of little flounders. The crab Sebastian has to look after Melody and the interplay between then is amusing, especially when Melody imitates the crabs accent. And King Triton has that "seen it all before" look when his grabdaughter starts to bring Atlantis crashing down about his head.
A bright, funny, inoffensive kiddies animation, worth a look.

An excellent opinion - just not sure I agree with you. I love Disney movies but I thought this one was awful! Come on, it's exactly the same story as the prequel! And in regards to music and animation, it was still way below the high standard Disney set's. I don't thnk you should excuse blandness - this is just a very poor sequel.
