I expected so much from this film which was always a worry, this is another UK TV show that tried to transfer it's format to the big screen and failed in a majorly big way. The show as a TV entity is brilliant and can normlally do no wrong in my eyes, sadly the same can't be said of it's big screen incarnation.
The characters themselves are very strong on TV and always thrive well in the setting of Royston Vasey. But the entire concept of this film is that the Gents themselves have decided to kill off those characters in favour of something more highbrow and serious so some of the fictional characters of Royston Vasey make their way into the real world to stop this happening.
Tubbs, Edward & Pappa Lazarou initially fail in this endeavor as they can't fit into the real world well enough. Bernice, Dr Chinnery & Pauline are supposed to be the next team to go through but unfortunately for Royston Vasey, Hillary Briss, Herr Lipp and Geoff Tipps go through in their place as Hillary Briss was fleeing from the police.
They track down the Gents and kidnap Steve Pemberton, replacing him with Herr Lipp (who makes a better Steve than Steve does). The film that the remaining Gents were writing is introduced as a (really bad) story within a story. Eventually the remaining 2 Gents discover Herr Lipp really isn't Steve and they arrange to trade him with the real Steve. Of course it means they all have to go back to Royston Vasey and have a really bad ending where all the Gents die and you feel like they have deliberatly killed themselves all off to avoid writing any future material.
Very bad film, very bad middle and ending. It has NO redeeming features. Best avoided even by fans.
Advantages: great film, great idea and great characters Disadvantages: no more royston vasey after this.
...seen all 3 series of The League of Gentlemen and loved it all, i was delighted when I saw the Apocalypse film for £7 in HMV, and bought it even though i hadn't seen it yet. i was confident that it would be up to the standard of the TV series, and wasn't disappointed.

The League of Gentlemen is the collective name for the TV show and film's creators, writers and actors. They are Steve Pemberton, Reese Shearsmith, Mark Gatiss and Jeremy Dyson, and together they write and make the film and program. Although they're a four, they normally write in two pairs: Steve and Reese in one pair, and Mark and Jeremy ...

Advantages: Funny and great characters Disadvantages: Not quite as good as the series
...League of Gentlemen: Apocalypse tells the story of what happens when the four writers of The League of Gentlemen, try to leave behind a collection of characters that refuse to be killed off. The weird and wonderful residents of Royston Vasey manage to find a way into the real world and face a number of challenges in order to save their town, which is a facing an apocalypse. The writers all play themselves, with the exception of Jeremy Dyson, who ... ...fan of the TV series and I really liked this film as well. Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith play the many characters from Royston Vasey and do a fantastic job, with the likes of Papa Lazarou and Tubbs sharing scenes together. I thought having Herr Lipp kidnapping Steve Pemberton and imitating him was an interesting idea. My favourite character is Papa Lazarou, but I found myself loving all the characters in this film. This is a nice ...

Advantages: Fantastic never before seen special features Disadvantages: First act can be slightly tedious at times
I only got into ?The League of Gentlemen? during the time of the film being released, so I had to catch up and brought the complete box set. I almost brought the original DVD release of this live show, but saw that a special edition was going to be released, so I waited for that.
I?m glad that I did, as there are a lot of brilliant extras that do not feature on the previous release, including a behind-the-scenes look at the live show, which I particularly found interesting. Also, there is a clip from the ?The League of Gentlemen?sApocalypse? (which was far more significant at the time, because the DVD was released before the film), it is the scene where the girl confesses to the vicar, Bernice. I was especially interested to here the commentary, which the previous edition lacked, the League of Gentlemen are extremely entertaining ...
