still be best sellers, the America's Best Comics imprint took the dilapidated superhero genre and created three vastly entertaining hybrids with Tom Strong, Promethea and Top Ten. Now, a stunning coup de grace is delivered with this masterful pairing of Victorian adventure fiction's greatest characters and the old war-horse of the super-group. With the stunning The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, it would be no exaggeration to say that Alan Moore has produced a near-perfect piece of adventure fiction that is clever, literate, rich with excitement and hard to put down. It's 1898 and at the behest of M, the mysterious head of the secret Service, Campion Bond is dispatched to procure the services of Miss Mina Murray (nee Harker), adventurer Allan Quartermain, "Science-Pirate" Captain Nemo, Henry Jekyll (and his monstrous alter ego) and Hawley Griffin (aka The Invisible Man). Together, they must combat an insidious threat that will decide supremacy of the London skies, but their success may unleash a far greater threat. With no shortage of action, Moore and O' Neill sustain a high level of suspense, intrigue, mystery and terrific wit that all contribute to an indispensable read. O'Neill's art, so memorable in Marshal Law, produces a London filled with vivid, magnificent architecture and a malevolent atmosphere ripe with thrills and danger. An unmitigated triumph, the sequel cannot come soon enough, with such a glorious past showing what the future can hold for comics. Magnificent--pure and simple. --Danny Graydon
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. From the pages of Victorian literature come Captain Nemo, Dr Jekyll (and his alter ego Mr Hyde), Dorian Gray, Tom Sawyer, the Invisible Man, Mina Harker (from Dracula), and the hunter Allan Quatermain (Sean Connery), all assembled to combat an evil megalomaniac out to conquer the world. It's hardly an original plot, but perhaps that's fitting for a movie sewn together like Frankenstein's monster. It rushes from one frenetic battle to another, replacing sense with spectacle--Nemo's submarine rising from the water, a warehouse full of zeppelins bursting into flame, Venice collapsing into its own canals. It's flashy, dumb, and completely incoherent. Fans of the original comic book will be disappointed. --Bret Fetzer

Plot: Stephen Norrington's THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN begins in 1899 London where, due to some cataclysmic events in England and Germany, the world is on the brink of war. Mycroft Holmes (Richard Roxburgh) is sent by the British government to round up various figures from Victorian-era literature in an attempt to find some solution. First on the list is explorer Allan Quatermain (Sean Connery), quickly installed as leader of the ramshackle outfit. Among the plethora of mythical figures joining Quatermain are The Invisible Man, Captain Nemo, Jekyll and Hyde, Dorian Gray, and many others. Initially the League are sent to Prague to prevent a series of bombs from exploding, causing some spectacular set pieces as the merry band of rogues use all their special skills to fend off the evil forces. This is only the start of their journey however, and there are plenty of surprises for these courageous battlers, not least when they discover who is really behind all the chaos they have tried so hard to control. Working with material from comic book veteran Alan Moore (who also penned FROM HELL), director Norrington (BLADE) draws on some interesting traits and legends from his characters, such as Dorian Gray's painting and Dr. Jekyll's potion. Making sure each member is far from infallible, Norrington paints a sympathetic portrait of flawed heroes battling against the odds, with some spectacular action sequences, and humorous asides.

Advantages: Has a good beginning Disadvantages: Soon gets boring
...When I saw the trailer for "The League Of ExtraordinaryGentlemen" it looked really good but when I saw the film in cinemas the beginning was good but then it got really boring. The film begins when a villain called the Phantom attempts to destroy the greatest cities of Europe and to stop him a group of people with special abilities have been employed by "M" to stop him but then it turns out the villain is "M" the employer of "The League Of ExtraordinaryGentlemen" which I think really screws up the story and how the hell do they know how to drive a car if they weren't invented yet (as it is set in the late 19th Century). Sean Connery is a great actor even in his days as 007 agent, James Bond but he should of never played a role in this film because this film was badly done. If there was anything I could change in this film it would...

Advantages: Lots of extra items on dvd Disadvantages: too much cgi
...League of extraordinarygentlemen is a good film for anyone who enjoys action and adventure films, it stars actors new and old, sean connery and shane west.
The preformance of the actors in this film is good but throughout the film there is a bit too much reliance on CGI. Though it doesnt really ruin the film, i would still recommend it and i would definately pay to see it at the cinema and i have the dvd, which contains alot of extra features, including deleted scenes.
I think the storyline of the film is great as it includes characters such as the invisible man, dr.jekyl and mr.hyde, agent tom sawyer, draculas wife and many more.
if you buy the dvd i would say its money well spent!...

Advantages: Intriguing characters and wonderful spcial effects. Disadvantages: You are left wanting to see more.
...I have watched League of ExtraordinaryGentlemen many times and have never tired of the intriguing characters and each of their 'special' traights. Or indeed the special effects; especially those of ' The Nautilus', makes me wish I could see it first hand for myself.
If, like me, you grew up reading Marvel comics then watching Daredevil will be like re-newing an old friendship. It reminds me of the stories I once read and is also an enjoyable film. A great action packed film, with also the hint of romance, making this a must for all the family.
Great for all the family to watch, and there are some great one-liners that made us all laugh. Two films for the price of one is a plus in my opinion, and I highly recommend this DVD....
