Set in 1757 in the American Colonies, the war is intensifying between the French and British. Both sides are aided by the Native Americans and Tribal Indians especially.
Right from the start of the movie you really get a sense of the film, although it starts of with a landscape of mountains, its not the picture that gets to you but the music. I really like the music and all the way through the soundtrack is so good, the film to me is like a dream from childhood, I would really love to be like Hawkeye,
its so cool. I really connected with the film.
The story revolves around three men, these are the last of the Mohicans, a dying out Indian tribe. Chingachgook and Uncas are the true Mohicans, the third a white adopted man called Nathaniel Po/Hawkeye. They plan to head west to Kentucky but get caught up in a war that is none of their own fault.
Not only does the story revolve the Mohicans, it has other little stories built into the film. These include such aspects as jealousy, love, honesty, trust and so on that we; as people go through each day. The film portrays these very well and almost anything you can think of is included.
The film has plenty of fighting and action packed scenes, on some occasions I would call them too action-packed but it actually adds to the atmosphere of the film and that's what I think makes a great movie, the atmosphere and the feeling you feel. Its like a horror movie, its not a horror is it don't scare you. But this film is an action/adventure and it brings it into your living room/bedroom really well. It has the atmosphere of war and feelings of love which are the two main topics within the film.
The love story between two characters (Hawkeye and a lady friend) is portrayed really well on screen, you can really put yourself in the characters shoes and take view from their point. These two characters really puts the emotions into the film between them.
Like in my second paragraph about the soundtrack, the soundtrack is great! This is one of the films greatest assets is the soundtrack, it fits in really well with the film and brings in the atmosphere to you, the audience and into itself, the film. The soundtrack is really moving and not only moved me but it's the kind of music that gets your adrenaline pumping kind of, if your anybody like me.
The scenery in the film is truly amazing, and it is all the landscape that it would've been like in 1757. I just thought I'd mention that, lol.
Although the film takes a while to get into the action packed scenes it is well worth the wait and its not a bad thing but a good thing, in that it explains the story of each character and who they are.
The acting of all characters is superbly done in every respect. What they plan to get across they do, whether it be anger or sarcasm, they do get it across in a nice way. Even the extras do a good job in that each character fit's his/her role nicely.
If you are a patriot then this film sets a brilliant example of British pride. The film could be related to Zulu as that also sets a brilliant example of British pride.
The special effects, well I don't really know what to call them but like the cannons are shooting and it is so realistic and when they enter Fort William the music, the scenes, the action all adds to the impact of the film and adds impact to the viewer.
There are also two extra features, these being able to watch the film with only the music, no voices and the other is a trailer.
I really enjoyed this film, its sets a British example of the red coats. A tale of love is incorporated and the two must survive the war. I think all the actors have done an exceptionally good job, the scenery is quite amazing as it looks untouched as if it were in 1757. The soundtrack to the film is awesome! If you like the kind of Irish music with a little difference this is for you, so buy the soundtrack too!!! I would like to, just I find it a little overpriced in HMV for £13.99, but when it comes down in price I will buy it. Last of the Mohicans can be purchased from most places at a reasonable price, from the internet is good such as from PLAY.COM at a price of £6.99. So if you come across it and love a good old action/war/romance then get this film.
