Only special films can be more than the sum of it's parts. The Godfather is much more than a mafia movie, Shaun of the Dead is much more than a comedy movie, The Matrix is much more than a sci-fi adventure. Whether this film is of a similar proportion is all dependant upon it's audience.
The key to watching The Last Kiss is to go in with no expectations whatsoever. Starring, most notably, Zach Braff, known most notably for his role in American sitcom 'Scrubs' and Rachel Bilson, a main character in teen drama 'The O.C.', this has all the ingredients for a throwaway romantic comedy. However, the film substitutes laughs for a broad range of emotion and the problems of being a young adult slowly reaching middle age. Whether or not you see this film as a long, moaning mess or as a poetic expression of rational fears depends on your own life experiences. Emotionally fragile male youths are probably the most likely to sympathise with Michael's (Braff) position as a man on the verge of the end of his life as a free man, and very much fearful about it - with a pregnant girlfriend who's desperate for a stereotypical house and family. What's key to this movie is that the audience is not pushed in one way or the other as how they should feel about the situation. Kim (Bilson) is not portrayed to be a bad person, nor is Michael shown to be the devil for pursuing her. Right until the last quarter of an hour, the audience is left to decide by themselves whether or not Michael is doing the right thing.
Though the central storyline is a very honest show of human emotion and fears of choosing the right life path, the supporting story archs can often feel like they're just fillers - the film doesn't allow for the viewer to get any real feel for Michael's friends situations, and many of the supporting cast can blur into one. However, it gives a sense of context to the story, which could easily feel one-dimensional if shown to be a stand-alone relationship.
Without Braff, it's doubtful that this film would work as beautifully as it does. Playing the role with emotional fragility so perfectly, it's hard to see anyone else pulling off this fickle character, wracked with self-doubt and worry. All his relationships in the movie seem real - from Michael's fake shows of strength to pregnant girlfriend Jenna (Jacinda Barrett) to his slowly waning friendships and, of course, his lusty relationship with Kim. Though other characters are played with varying degrees of strength, it is Braff who really holds it together and gives the other actors an honest, gritty base from which to develop their own characters.
The themes of the film are all dependant upon what each audience member brings to it - whether it's a single mother who sees it as a men not understanding just how great their life is or as a very frightening view of growing old for a teenager, the beauty of the film is in how everyone can view it in a different light and still take something from it.
With a soundtrack that sometimes undermines the themes of the film, director Tony Goldwyn shot a movie with some beauty, resisting the urge to play up the comedy side of things, which leaves the audience with a stark showing of life as a young male and a brilliant film about how life, no matter what, will always leave you wondering if you could've had it just that little bit better.
Advantages: Zach Braff Disadvantages: Also Zach Braff and an annoying storyline
...anxious, anxious about marriage and the future, because he is worried that there will be no more surprises in his life. In comes Kim (Rachel Bilson), a young university girl, who seems to be very interested in Michael. She seems to give him the surprises that he craves. Being pulled further into Kim's direction, MIchael makes a mistake. One last kiss.
Review:
This film and its characters annoyed me a lot. Why is Zach Braff such a stupid guy in ... ...you ruin it all with the anxiety of 'no surprises'? He is just creating problems for himself, to brighten up his days and so that he can have something to moan about. And Kim. Public enemy no 2. OK, she thought Michael is not happy with Jenna. Fine. Does that equate to 'oh let's have sex, because you don't like your girlfriend anyway'? No, I should think. She is deliberately trying to get with Michael even though she knows he has a girlfriend. Even ...

Advantages: Zach Braff, good supporting cast and enjoyable film Disadvantages: People may watch this as advertised as comedy when it is not
The Last Kiss stars Zach Braff as Michael, a 29 year old architect who has a good job, great girlfriend, good friends and a nice home. It starts with him saying that when he was younger and thought about what his life would be like at the age of 30 this is always what he wanted it to be like. Only problem is, now that he is there, he is scared that this is it, no more surprises for him.
The story begins with the audience finding out his girlfriend ... ...give too much away for the people who have not watched this film, he does see her again. This adds to his feelings of being in the same situation for the rest of his life and never having anything more. The story then continues telling the story of how Michael decides to deal with this situation and how the two woman deal with his decisions.
Even though the story between Michael and Jenna is the main plot, you are also introduced to Michael's friends ...

The soundtrack was excellent featuring songs from snow patrol, which fitted the mood of the movie very well and kept the story fluid and moving quickly. ?The LastKiss? is a film that has all the right elements to make an enjoyable and affecting comedy-drama. But director Tony Goldwyn fails to pull everything together to make you actually care. Admittedly the actors try their hardest, but with Paul Haggis? limited material, they?re fighting a losing battle to create roles you can identify with. It doesn?t follow that a man in Michael?s position would cheat on his girlfriend and that?s the reason why I couldn?t buy into the story, much as I wanted to. It?s a missed opportunity for all involved. ...

After being such a huge Nirvana fan and fascinated with Kurt Cobains talent as a teenager I was pleasantly surprised when my sister told me there was a film coming out based on the last days of the legend I was jumping for joy and after reading in NME a couple of weeks ago that a film about the life of Joy Division legend Ian Curtis was in production I was ecstatic. Unfortunately after a long and lengthy search and prowling the streets of Cardiff for the lowest price of this dvd it dawned on me it was too expensive to buy so I had to return back home humbled with my tail between my legs. That was until my 19th birthday my sis bought me 'Last Days' on dvd I was hugging and kissing for ages i mean woweee what a present I just couldn't stop smiling for the rest of the day.
The basic ideals or plot behind the film are of a unique talent ...

Personally I would say Notorious is a romance more than a spy film. The romance aspect of the film was to me the far more important aspect; the spy plot even though brilliantly executed, is quite secondary.
The film is entirely in black and white and this only adds to the superb tension that Hitchcock can produce! It has a dark atmosphere from pretty much the first scene right through till the end which I feel Hitchcock was great at pulling off. There's a very sensuous kissing scene between the two leads which managed to get through the censor board which lasted about 3 minutes in total. Clever camerawork and the characters not staying still during the kiss enabled this to get past the censors, which at the time didn't allow a kiss to last ...

DVD Description
Nearing his 30th birthday, marriage-phobic Michael (Zach Braff, GARDEN STATE) loves his live-in girlfriend Jenna (Jacinda Barrett), but worries that there are no surprises left in his life. Enter Kim (Rachel Bilson), a vibrant college student who Michael meets at a wedding and is instantly attracted to. He soon finds himself treading dangerous ground; torn between the girl he loves and the possibilities that a new relationship might bring. With Kim, Michael not only feels 10 years younger, but also as if anything is possible. Now, he has to decide if pursuing Kim is worth the risk of losing Jenna, and if the life he has planned with Jenna is in fact the life he really wants. Like Michael, his friends are going through their own relationship issues. Izzy (Michael Weston) is battling heartbreak after being dumped by his long-time girlfriend. Chris (Casey Affleck) and his wife already have a rocky relationship, and are feeling the stress of having their first baby. Kenny (Eric Christian Olsen) is the only one not in crisis--but that's only because he is determined to remain a single ladies man. Then there are Jenna's parents, Anna (Blythe Danner) and Stephen (Tom Wilkinson), who are facing their own issues after 30 years of marriage. Based on the Italian film L'ULTIMO BACIO, THE LAST KISS looks at relationships from all angles and shies away from finger pointing and laying blame. Instead, it acknowledges that the world is full of temptation, and that growing up is serious business. Braff turns in a typically understated performance, conveying Michael's angst without asking for sympathy, and provides the perfect counterpart to Tony Goldwyn's (A WALK ON THE MOON) subtle direction.
