The Land Before Time has been made into a series of movies, each lasting about 70minutes running time. The first one was released in 1988 and the sequels about 2 years after. Now avalible to own on DVD, you can have the classic & the ultimate Dinosaur equialent of Bambi in your collection.
The story follows on from the previous 8 movies. Where in the first one littlefoot, the longnecked dinosaur, is orphaned and has to battle preadtors and the elements in order to find the great valley. He and his newely made friends live together in this film under the watchful eye of their parents, or grandparents in the case of littlefoot. Since then we've seen his personality grow to become a caring and strong indivdual and together with his gang of dino baby friends have helped save their herds from extinction many a time. Now Littlefoot and his gang of five best dinosaur friends must travel back to the Great Valley in order to explore its wonders and discover what the water has done to enrich thier once beloved home. They also discover that new dinosaurs have found their place there and that just adds to the adventure, making new friends and having to resettle amongst their habitat whilst learning to co-operate with the new dwellers. This leads to a test of friendship boundaries within the group and also along thier dangerous and challenging journey. Fortunately, the danger isn't great enough to keep Littlefoot and his prehistoric pals from singing some irresistibly fun songs- as always. Which makes a wonderful viewing and also no violence. Highly recommended trutly wonderful film despite the cartoon format is still great for both kids and adults alike.
As for the general quality of the graphics and animation, I'd say it was quite a let down. It's not really been improved very much from the old Video tape format. The songs and sound quality however is noticably different, either that or my speakers are much better than when we had the VHS's. But the colours still blur, which is disappointing for me as I'd expected some improvement. The kids on the other hand, adore it and don't care that it's not as digitally mastered as other animated films, for example, those in the genre of Finding Nemo and Toy Story.

Overall 4 star rating, a super storyline and follows quite well from the rest of the series. I particularly like this one as new underwater dinosaurs are introduced, as many people often forget the diversity of the prehistoric creatures that lived many millions of years before us. It also makes you want to cry in parts, but not as much as the first one as you kind of know they're not going to kill any of the other major characters off so far into a series. Otherwise they couldn't make any more, any therefore no more monies! Highly recommended if you loved the first one, also if you've seen the t.v. series programmes.
