Another classic film, the fith installement, to be correct, from ''the land before time'' series. Which of course, started off as one movie, but was then made into several thousnad more in a dire attempt to milk every penny out of a brillant masterpiece. Pretty much, a bit like James Bond or star wars, except these dinosaurs lack lightsabers and don't drink bizarrely named drinks that have to be prepared on the top of washing machines.
By now, from having read (that is if you have) my other reviews you'll know I LOVE the old school films, especially of the cartoon variety, especailly the ever so cute Care Bears, My Little Pony, Biker Mice from Mars, Count Duckula, The Land Before Time, Poddington Peas, the smurfs and many, many others which don't get much attention today. Story: Basically this is the fifth installment from the first Film which developed into several movies all of which the whole story line always revolving around Littlefoot. Littlefoot is an orphaned Apatosaurus (long necked dino, for those who arent paeolotlogists) , who fleed from a drought-caused famine to search for the Great Valley, an area which has been spared devastation and where dinosaurs can survive and live in harmony. He became orphaned after the on-screen death of Littlefoot's mother from injuries suffered while battling an antagonistic Tyrannosaurus ("Sharptooth") and the effects of an earthquake; however, upon reaching the Great Valley, he was reunited with his grandparents and now lives with them in the Great Valley along with his friends; Cera, a Triceratops; Ducky, a Saurolophus; Petrie, a Pteranodon; and Spike, a Stegosaurus, together they overcome many challenges and have much fun-tabuolous adventures along the way.
The storyline for this dvd which runs 71 minutes in length is an another adventure for Littlefoot, Cera, Spike, Ducky, Petrie and Ali. This time trouble is aroused by a gang of "leaf gobblers" who eat all the trees, leaves, bushes and blades of grass, in fact all possible vegetation, in the Great Valley until nothing is left! This forces Littlefoot, the young brontosaurus, and the other dinosaur inhabitants out of their home. Arguments soon break out among the adults whilst they leave the Great Valley and Littlefoot and his friends decide to take matters in their own hands by crossing the "big water" to an unknown island. At the Big water they encounter an old friend from The Land Before Time DVD number 2, he's called Chomper, the tiny friendly T-rex. Chomper has to protect the gang from his own carnivorous parents, which adds tension to the storyline as they have some really close calls! Plenty of drama in this one, you're sure to enjoy as we all did :) Some fantastic songs, although the graphics and cartoons are pretty much the same as the old style t.v. and video issues. It depends if you prefer this look, although I personally think they could have digitally remastered it a bit more. Of course not to the extent of finding nemo, but perhaps a nice intermediate.
Overall a 4 star rating, although ali doesn't make much of an impact as you'd have expected, But sound is improved from the VHS series, & the colour blurring hasn't really been changed much. A shame really as 'we have the technology'. But still the storyline is great and the loveable characters are just wonderful. Sure to make even the hardest rock cry.
