The King's Speech Blu Ray Review Release date: 09/05/2011 Certificate: 12 Running Time: 113 minutes Introduction I'm sure that anyone remotely interested in cinema and movies will be aware of The King's Speech, the multi-award winning film that wowed both the critics and film goers earlier this year when it went on general release. It ended up winning 4 Academy awards including Best Actor and Best film at the 2011 Oscars and 7 BAFTA's including, once again, the coveted awards for Best Film and Actor and proved itself to be a worldwide and box office success. I saw the film at the time of its ... more

    Advantages Advantages The high standards.

Disadvantages Disadvantages I wish I had seen it at the Cinema.

The Royal Family can be a touchy subject, I always feel the media give them a rough ride and that the Royals aren’t in a position to fight back, however when a film is made based on a member of the Royal Family or about them then again the writer has to be given credit to even approach this subject. The Kings Speech is quite refreshing for what it does and to some extent how it does it, by this I mean that the subject of Abdication of a man who turns his back on the throne for the love of another woman is just a sub-plot of the story about Prince Albert who is thrust in a direction without any ... more

Advantages Advantages Proud and erect British film!

Disadvantages Disadvantages No real heart here

Star – Colin Firth Run Time – 118 minutes Genre – Period drama Awards – 4 Oscars & 7 BAFTAS Country – GB Cert – 12a Format – BluRay --------------------- So there it is, The Kings Speech, the most successful ‘independent’ British film ever, a surprise multiplex hit, to date taking over £400,000 million pounds world-wide from just an £8 million budget. Somewhat interestingly, the now defunct New Labor quango the Film Council poured one million pounds into the film to get the production up and going and yet saw none of the £400 million coming back, one of the reasons the Tories dumped the ... more

Advantages Advantages Good storyline, Great cast.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not my favourite era.

Blu-Ray Quality/Special Features In response to a couple of people complaining that I did not review the special features and the blu-ray quality I decided to add this bit in to keep everyone happy. I did not add it in before as it completely slipped my mind, I do not tend to bother with the special features as when I buy a dvd (or blu-ray) strangely enough I buy it so I can watch the film. ;) So, we watched the film on our PS3, which is the only blu-ray player we have. The picture quality was as you would expect with a blu-ray pretty good. This might not be much of a description but to be ... more

Please purchase this film Insightful with beautiful cinematography ! In my opinion the best film I have seen in years! the performance by Colin Firth was performed with pure theatrical gusto as the miserable monarch, Geoffrey Rush as the speech coach and Helena Bonham Carter as the Queen who has to learn to like Logue by overcoming her own snobbery – which she incidentally never troubles to disguise as shyness. Her love for her husband shines through in this tale, George VI's talking cure is gripping. This is a film of small, precise, perfectly judged moments: while the historical backdrop ... more
