ProRogers and Hammersteins music

ConsProbably not one for the male species

Well here I go again, writing another musical opinion that I don't expect a lot of people to read as I know most of you these days are into Sian Penn, George Clooney, Meg Ryan and the likes with lots of blood, gore, sex and violence. Me......I'll stick to the l950s musicals....pure escapism, and...

This film is the film I grew up watching and admiring. Set in the 1860s and starring Yul Brenner as the 'King of Siam' and Deborah Kerr as Anna LeonOwens or 'Miss Anna' as her star pupils knew her! In fact I am watching it (well trying to, maybe just listening to it) now as I am writing this...

I thought this film to be incredibly thought-provoking, if a little odd. I found some parts of it to be quite confusing, and I had to watch the film twice to understand it properly. You have to pay attention, but it really is a fantastic movie - worth watching more than once so as to understand the storyline.

The King and I is about an English woman who goes to Bankok to teach the King’s children to read and write etc. They both have different views on life, and the King thinks that everyone should agree with him. Watch the film to see what happens in the end. There are songs such as ‘Hello Young...

Manufacturer's product description

Rogers and Hammerstein's Broadway musical, adapted from Margaret Landon's fact-based novel and the 1946 film ANNA AND THE KING OF SIAM, makes a spectacularly successful move to the silver screen in the Yul Brynner tour de force THE KING AND I. Brynner, reprising the role he'd polished to perfection on stage, plays the blustering, headstrong Siamese potentate who meets his match in the form of Anna Leonowens (Deborah Kerr), the prim and proper English widow he's hired to oversee the rearing of his huge, unruly flock of children.<BR>Director Walter Lang (TIN PAN ALLEY) presents THE KING AND I, one of the most popular musicals in cinema history, as a dizzyingly bountiful Technicolor feast. Kerr (aided during songs by the overdubbed voice of Marni Nixon) contributes a dynamic performance that is every bit the equal of Brynner's transcendent, career-defining turn, for which he won an Academy Award. The delightful score, which also garnered an Oscar, includes three perennial favorite show tunes: "I Whistle a Happy Tune," "Getting to Know You," and "Shall We Dance
