it is set in Siam and follows the stroy of the king and ruler of that country and a very opinionated young english school teacher that has been sent across to help him and shows how difficult a clash of opinion can be. within this story is a sad story of love and how it is worth fighting ... ...interesting and the whole film is very colourful with authentic costumes and set.
it also teaches us about the morals of life. it is a great film for all ages to enjoy over and over again, as i have done since i was little!! ... more

it is set in Siam and follows the stroy of the king and ruler of that country and a very opinionated young english school teacher that has been sent across to help him and shows how difficult a clash of opinion can be. within this story is a sad story of love and how it is worth fighting for.
the musical numbers are also very interesting and the whole film is very colourful with authentic costumes and set.
it also teaches us about the morals of life. it is a great film for all ages to enjoy over and over again, as i have done since i was little!!

I thought this film to be incredibly thought-provoking, if a little odd. I found some parts of it to be quite confusing, and I had to watch the film twice to understand it properly. You have to pay attention, but it really is a fantastic movie - worth watching more than once so as to understand the storyline. ...

Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic musical the King and I special edition is a great buy and one I would highly recommend to any one.
This is one of the great Hollywood musicals from that period of time when they where making such great films like this.
The story is of a English governess Anna Owens played by the great Debera Karr who has gone to Siam to be the governess to the children of the King (played by the one and only Yul Brynner .
There ... ...been sent to the King as an other wife and her bid for freedom with the man she loves.
This film has some great music and songs and the sets are realy eye catching.
Its a must if you have not ever seen it and if you have already seen this film then you will know what I am saying when I say you have to have this in your collection.
A film for all the family and once you have seen it you will want to watch it again and again. ...

but you won't be distracted.
Walt Disney has many family orientated films. Favourite animation titles include 'The Jungle Book', 'Aladdin', 'Cinderella', 'Beauty and the Beast', 'Bambi' and '101 Dalmations'. These movies are all fun, heart warming and beautifully made. Children and adults will enjoy them in equal measures.
The 'Lion King', for me, slots in easily above all these movies. It is a beautiful story, the animation is incredible and the sound track is amazing. 'Hakuna Matata' is catchy, great fun and will stick in your head for days to come.
In conclusion, no matter how old (or young) you are, you have got to own 'The Lion King'. I class it as a Classic, its definately one of the best films I've ever seen.
I paid £24.99 for my 2 Disc SpecialEditionDVD. I have seen the single DVD for as little as £9 ...

Rogers and Hammerstein's Broadway musical, adapted from Margaret Landon's fact-based novel and the 1946 film ANNA AND THE KING OF SIAM, makes a spectacularly successful move to the silver screen in the Yul Brynner tour de force THE KING AND I. Brynner, reprising the role he'd polished to perfection on stage, plays the blustering, headstrong Siamese potentate who meets his match in the form of Anna Leonowens (Deborah Kerr), the prim and proper English widow he's hired to oversee the rearing of his huge, unruly flock of children. Director Walter Lang (TIN PAN ALLEY) presents THE KING AND I, one of the most popular musicals in cinema history, as a dizzyingly bountiful Technicolor feast. Kerr (aided during songs by the overdubbed voice of Marni Nixon) contributes a dynamic performance that is every bit the equal of Brynner's transcendent, career-defining turn, for which he won an Academy Award. The delightful score, which also garnered an Oscar, includes three perennial favorite show tunes: 'I Whistle a Happy Tune', 'Getting to Know You', and 'Shall We Dance'.
