England 1321. Deep in the heart of countryside lies an isolated village governed by a ... more
sinister regime of Owl Masters - theirs is a pagan world of terror and blackmail where neighbour denounces neighbour and sin is punishable by murder. This dark status quo is disturbed by the arrival of a house of religious women who establish a community outside the village. Why do their crops succeed when village crops fail; their cattle survive despite the plague? But petty jealousy turns deadly when the women give refuge to a young martyr. For she dies a gruesome death after spitting the sacramental host into flames that can't burn it - what magic is this? Or is the martyr now a saint and the host a holy relic? Accusations of witchcraft and heresy run rife while the Owl Masters rain down hellfire and torment on the women who must look to their faith to save them from the lengthening shadow of Evil...a shadow with predatory terrifying talons.

Advantages: The odd moment of brilliance Disadvantages: Actors and film-makers must have been on drugs
a scene where Reno hacks up a dead rabbit; if I'm completely honest, that's the scene that I found most disturbing. Finally, there's a scene with two naked women kissing in the shower - obviously if that is going to offend, you will want to stay well clear.
There are a number of problems with both the way that the film was made and the DVD. The sound is a little bit off and rather monotone, so at times it is difficult to understand what people are saying - I suspect there was a fair amount of slurring through drug/alcohol abuse going on as well. Then the making of the film is suspect as well; the cameras are shaky and the editor hasn't done a very good job of cutting out the unnecessary parts. I read somewhere that this film was considered more art-house than horror - all I can say is that particular critic must have been totally off his ...
Advantages: true shocker Disadvantages: plot, acting, production
left right and centre. However, far be it from solving the problem, the media hype simply made the dvd's more desireable. Copies of the film that were not destroyed went up in value, as people searched for copies of the uncut originals.
Driller killer is one such video nasty. And nasty is the right word for it. The plot, if it can be called so is that an artist by the name of Reno is struggling to finish his latest piece. It is a picture of a buffalo, and he cannot perfect the piece. It maddens him, and the buffalo's eye sees right through him, and he descends into insanity. This madness is hastened by a punk band who move in, and create so much noise that he cannot rest. His insanity finally comes out in a spate of killings, the like of which you will not see again. As the title suggests, his weapon of choice is an electric drill ...
Advantages: Clever direction and imagery, good casting Disadvantages: Average story
Juliette Lewis?s role in ?Natural Born Killers? was always bound to cause comparison with her role the previous year in ?Kalifornia? and indeed make us wonder whether she was becoming typecast as the ?serial killer sidekick?. But her role in this film, as Mallory Knox, is similar in circumstance only to that of the vulnerable, simple Adele Corners in the other film. The character could not be more different.
Mallory has had a difficult childhood, abused by her father while her mother turned a blind eye. An end to her suffering is in sight when she meets Mickey Knox (Woody Harrelson), a meat delivery man, who has also endured an abusive childhood. The two fall in love at first sight, but their relationship comes to an abrupt end when Mickey goes to prison for a car theft. Mallory?s family move away and her father vows to let her ...
