A moving, inspirational and insightful book of the Life and Works of the Talented and Intriguing Character that is Judy Garland I chose this book based on one reason and one reason only, because I knew that Hollywood was a dangerous place and being a great admirer of Judy Garland's work and strength and wanting to grow up into that profession, knew it would be a book that would give me an insight to how life will challenge me. To be able to read her biography was an honour to somebody like me who has done nothing but be in ore of her and her voice since as far back as I can remember. Now that I have read this book I have now learnt so much about the person I want to be, the career path I want to take and the sort of life I want to prevent. Toward Rainbow's End

Advantages: An amazing concert, great talent
Disadvantages: Some disappointments

I am really into my classic film stars at the moment. So when I was looking through Amazon the other week, I was very excited to see there was a DVD release of a Judy Garland concert. I have admired Judy since seeing her in The Wizard of Oz on TV, when I was a child. My Mum had a biography on her too, so I looked through that several times. Her life was fascinating, but ultimately tragic and she died in 1969, the year I was born. She was only 47 years old when she died. I also really like Liza Minnelli, Judy?s daughter. I recently bought the DVD of her Liza with a Z concert ? which has become one of my eleven-year-old daughter?s favourites! Judy Garland's Cinematic Swan Song

Advantages: Judy; enjoyable story; songs
Disadvantages: nothing to speak of

Many of you only recognize her name from watching the 1939 classic The Wizard of Oz, but Judy Garland was much, much more of a screen presence after that, her first role of Dorothy. I have adored her in every movie I have seen her in, including Meet Me In St. Louis, Easter Parade and A Star Is Born, all highly recommended if you enjoy musicals. In 1962 at the age of 39 when she still was pretty, a little heavy-waisted with long, slender legs, and her eyes sparkling, she made her final, starkly dramatic, exuberantly comedic musical, I Could Go On Singing. It should have won her an Oscar for her defiantly authentic role of Jenny Bowman, concert singer extraordinaire, but she was slapped by professional critics for, it would seem, her audacity.
