The "Italian Job" has got to be on everyones top 10 movies of all time, as it was a classic comic crime film, that will always still be watchable for all ages.
For those of you younger people, to whom might not have seen this great film, well here's the story.
Charlie Crocker (played by Sir Micheal Caine) has just got out of prison and is looking for a big job, to make some cash, the job is too steal $4 million worth of gold bullion, that gets transported through the streets of Turin. Well anyway this job needs finances as it is a huge operation, so he goes to Mafia style boss Mr Bridger (played by Noel Coward) to ask for help with the financing of the job.
Mr Brigder agrees to finance the job, so the stage is set, they plan out a massive operation, to where they have to distract all of the police in the city, whilst robbing the bullion in broad daylight in the busy streets of Turin.
The trouble is "The Mafia" are also planning a similar job, so they have to plan how to do it under the Mafia's noses.
They successfully steal the Bullion, by messing the traffic lights up in the busy streets, hence causing mayhem, then the most memorable part of the film starts, where they load the bullion into the back of "3 mini coopers", which are painted in the colours of the Union Jack (Red White and Blue), this results in a fantastic chase through the city, and the outskirts, they even end up in the drainage system during the getaway.Whilst all this is happening the song "This is a self preservation society" is playing which adds to the drama, and you also see the prison where Mr Bridger is singing "England, England, England" and it really makes you feel patriotic in a funny old way.
For those of you who have never seen this film, I will not tell you the ending, as it will totally spoil it for you.
I know this is a very OLD film (1969 to be precise), but as I said earlier, you'll love it all the same.

Yep, can't fault you there. It was a great "feelgood" kind of movie. although to be fair the only highlights that really stay in my mind is the drive around the mountains (beginning of film), the heist itself of course, the wonderfully underated car chase and of course the "cliff hanger" of an ending:o)
There are rumours of a remake. If so I hope they still retain its unique Englishiness and don't "Americanise" it like they did with the remakes of Get Carter (dreadful) & The Avengers (pants).
Actually come to think of it I believe Rover are very soon to release the latest update of the Mini - what better way than to plug your car than to have it thrown around in this supposed remake lol

Advantages: Brilliant cast, superb soundtrack, funny moments, well-written script Disadvantages: The original might be spoilt if Hollywood suceed in making a modern remake of this. The Italian Job without Michael Caine would suck!
