I an a fan of comedy and sitcoms and especially British sitcoms so when I first saw the adverts on TV advertising this new first series of a sitcom called “The IT Crowd” I thought I would watch it. The adverts made it look good and after watching the first episode I can remember I wasn’t disappointed and I watched the whole series from then on.
After the series finished and came out on DVD I decided to buy it, mainly because I had enjoyed it the first time round and I hadn’t watched it since it had been on TV about a year ago so I had forgotten a little what happened in the episodes and would probably watch it again and again. Also I have quite a few sitcoms on DVD so it would be another fine addition to my current collection of comedy DVDs.
The IT crowd is about three main characters and although there are other characters who play other central roles in some episodes they are not in all episodes and these three main characters are. There is Roy, the very funny and very Irish IT technicians who is the cooler of the two, or should I say the less geeky of the two. Then there is Moss who is really a full on geek, I think this character is played magnificently down to the tee which is why this sitcom is so funny. The other character is Jen whose a quite ordinary woman who actually got the job at IT by lying on her CV. She doesn’t know anything at all about computers and at first pretends she does to the computer geeks. As the series goes on they become more of a team and better friends and also under cover a Goth who lives behind a door in the IT department.
This series is one not to be missed, however its not on TV now so you’ve already missed it. Not to worry though as you can pick up the DVDs from almost anywhere as it has gotten quite popular over the years. Its actually written by the same guy as father Ted which is another sitcom I enjoyed. Basically I think anyone would like this sitcom as it’s a great piece of British comedy that’s well written and well acted.

Advantages: Brilliant, original new comedy from our new generation of young British comedians. Disadvantages: The series is disappointingly short, and would benefit from being twice the length

Advantages: Very strong cast, excellent writing, well-directed and incredibly funny. Disadvantages: a bit too much like Graham Linehan's earlier stuff, formulaic.
