My name's Kieran and I'm from Essex, and I go to Colchester Royal Grammar School. I like computers and rock music (a lot!). I also enjoy running and socialising with my friends.

Everybody knows that there are to types of computer geek: There's the all-round nerd with no common sense, or any idea about how society really works, just a lot of knowledge about boring things. And there's the gamer. Not overly knowledgeable about anything other than computers, and a bit more clued-up about life beyond the darkened room, but still hopeless, sucked into the world of processors and BIOS setup through a love of computer games. In the IT Crowd, the overall geek is represented by Maurice Moss, played by Richard Ayoade. He portrays his character as being very naive, just what you'd expect from a computer nerd without much of a social life. The slightly less nerdy of the two IT guys is Roy, played by Irish actor Chris O'Dowd. He likes to think of himself as a perfectly normal, well-adjusted guy, but it is clear that deep down he is not very different from Moss. The IT Crowd is the story of how their working lives are changed by the arrival of Jen, a fiery and completely computer-illiterate manager played by Katherine
Parkinson. She lied on her CV, saying that she was good with computers, so Denholm, the irrational and slightly insane director of the company, played by Christopher Morris, decided to put her in IT. The guys aren't happy, but when Denholm fires two whole departments for not working well as a team, they decide it'll be best not to challenge his decision. The situation is a perfect opportunity for comedy, as the personalities of the characters clash so much. Jen tries to change the ways of the IT guys, which causes problems, and the guys aren't used to female company and are unsure how to act around her. The show is perhaps a little short on the brilliant one-liners seen in older British sitcoms like Blackadder, and American comedies such as Scrubs, but instead relies heavily on the bizarre situation and juxtaposition of characters to give it its hilarious comic edge. Definitely worth a watch. Guest appearances from Noel Fielding and Oliver Chris.
Episodes:
1. Yesterday's Jam - New manager, Jen, arrives in the IT department, sparking conflict between herself and Roy and Moss. Roy and Moss feel unloved, as the rest of the company treat them like dirt, so Jen organises a party, which all goes a bit wrong... The guys soon realise, however, that it could be beneficial to have Jen around.
2. Calamity Jen - Denholm has declared war on stress and has vowed to fire anyone experiencing stress by the end of the day. Jen manages to ruin a big business arrangement with a Japanese company thanks to her new shoes, and Moss manages to set fire to the office, so the IT department is a very stressful place when Denholm comes to check Jen's stress levels...
3. 50/50 - Jen manages to con the security guard into thinking she knows about classical music by guessing. To her horror, he chooses her as his phone-a-friend on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, and she gets it wrong. Meanwhile Roy and Moss have set up an account on a dating website as part of a bet with Jen. when they get a reply, Roy takes his date to the same restaurant that Jen is forced to take the security guard to. A disastrous but hilarious evening ensues.
4. The Red Door - Roy and Moss have always told Jen not to open the red door, so, naturally, she opens it and finds... Richmond (Noel Fielding), the goth who used to be Denholm's right hand man. The episode tells the story of how Richmond came to be in the basement, and includes some hilarious sub-plots.
5. The Haunting of Bill Crouse - Jen asks Moss to lie to her admirer, Bill Crouse (Adam Buxton), and, being the idiot he is, he tells him she's dead. Soon the whole company is mourning Jen while she is clueless and Bill spreads lies about how far thy went. Seeing her around the building, he thinks she is haunting him. Meanwhile Roy has his own admirer in the form of the hideous Judy (Cheryl Fergison).
6. Aunt Irma Visits - Jen has PMT and it seems to be rubbing off on the boys. Pretty soon, it seems that the entire global IT community has it. Moss falls for the company psychiatrist, Dr. Mendall, and tries desperately to keep seeing her. It seems he's in luck as she is interested in him too, but she looks alarmingly like Roy's mum, which is an awkward twist at the end of the episode.

Advantages: Very strong cast, excellent writing, well-directed and incredibly funny. Disadvantages: a bit too much like Graham Linehan's earlier stuff, formulaic.
