Ok so I was wrong. She's not a robber. She's…well… I'm not sure yet. Give me a minute. Oh well, she's gone again. Lets focus on what's happening now. The robbers have dressed up all their hostages in the same suits as themselves. ...

...film but it also means inside a man's mind. A very good film and one I'd definitely recommend to anyone. Mine cost me £5 from XtraVision and I'm quite happy with the value. There were no DVD extras. Similar films would be Dog Day Afternoon and Phonebooth but if you didn't like those films (I didn't like Phonebooth ) I wouldn't be put off. Certificate
The film is a 15. There is alot of bad langauge and only some violence.

Advantages: Good acting and plot Disadvantages: The 'ease' of a complicated plot makes it unbelievable
...Here, in the 2006 film Inside Man, he directs a stellar cast in a crime thriller with a twist, a thoughtfully directed film about a bank heist gone wrong.
The Plot
Dalton Russell has planned the perfect bank heist. Everything works perfectly, until a hostage situation emerges and Detective Frazier is brought in to negotiate with Russell. Yet this is no regular hostage situation. Frazier himself is on the verge of corruption charges, and the bank's ... ...as he has something very secret and important in a safe deposit box in the bank. Ax the fixer starts leaning her influence, and the pressure mounts on both Russell and Frazier, twists in the tale start to emerge, and all is not as it seems!
The Cast and Performances
This cast is full of big names. Denzel Washington is magnificent in his cacting ability as Detective Frazier, and Clive Owen is sulky and dangerous as Russell. The two work well together ...

Advantages: Great twists and turns Disadvantages: Watch it twice ?
INSIDE MAN
Starring Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster, Willem Dafoe and Christopher Plummer.
Directed by Spike Lee
A Universal Picture Production
How did I miss this film? Watched it last night and really enjoyed it. Reminded me a bit of 'The Thomas Crown Affair' starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. (If Mr McQueen had done the robbery himself) ?
I've often thought that Clive Owen has a similar McQueen magnetism.

Inside man is a crime thriller and hostage movie rolled into one. It goes without saying that Inside Man isn't your average hostage movie and not what you'd expect it to be when you first watch it. However, how memorable it is, is another question.

Advantages: A well written thriller that keeps you guessing Disadvantages: The music and the casting don't look great in parts
...I've seen a couple of films recently which provoked entirely different reactions in me, largely due to the expectations I had of them. I went into one hoping for something and it let me down badly. I went into "InsideMan", knowing very little about it and not really knowing what to expect and had a great time.
Dalton Russell has planned what he feels to be the perfect bank robbery. All that he needs to do is to carry it out and get away with it. That's going to be easier said than done, as Detective Keith Frazier is determined to stop him getting away with it, especially as he has a large number of hostages in the bank with him. Detective Frazier is keen to get the hostages out in one piece, whilst ensuring that the robbers come out into custody and the contents of the bank don't come out at all.
In the mean time, the President...

Advantages: slick plot, great acting, humor, entertaining, worth the money Disadvantages: plenty of swearing
.... It is a rare talent to be able to make a sentence funny relying only on one's voice, but Owen carries it off with style. Washington's personality in the film is more lighthearted, but there is no mistaking the seriousness that underlies his humor - to take this man for a fool would be a tremendous risk (as the icy, deliciously bitchy, Madeline White, played by Jodie Foster, discovers). Willem Dafoe turns in a solid but not necessarily memorable performance as Captain John Darius, and Christopher Plummer plays the aged and tormented banker Arthur Case to perfection - a man haunted by his past yet simultaneously unapologetic for what he has to do to keep that past under wraps.
Finally, moral messages aside, the movie would not be a Spike Lee movie if it lacked the insightful social commentary he is known for. Simply by his casting choices...

Advantages: Good Cast, Director and Story Disadvantages: Some average performances
...On paper this film could have turned out to be an absolute classic with Denzel Washington, Christopher Plummer, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster, Willem Defoe and Spike Lee directing this had all the ingredients to be my film of the year. In actual fact it came pretty close, beaten only by the superb M.i:3 and SuperMan Returns into third place.
Before watching the film I was dreading Clive Owen turning this film from brilliance to boring after his less than convincing performances in Sin City and King Arthur but in his leading role as Dalton Russell, creator of the most perfect bank robbery ever, he convinces as an intelligent but potentially violent master criminal.
True to form Denzel Washington appears in his fourth film with Spike Lee directing as hostage negotiator Keith Frazier, his insistence on handling the robbery/ransom himself...

In the tense thriller INSIDE MAN, a bank robbery leads to a number of people being taken hostage and it’s up to NYPD hostage negotiators Detectives Keith Frazier and Bill Mitchell to secure their release. The detectives are sent to the scene with orders to contact the ringleader of the gang, Dalton Russell (Clive Owen, SIN CITY), and ensure the release of the 50 bank staff and patrons taken hostage. However, things fail to progress as smoothly as the duo had hoped, with Russell proving to be an intelligent and calm operator that is able to stay one step ahead of the police. The situation is further complicated when power player Madeline White (Jodie Foster, PANIC ROOM) requests a meeting with Russell. Acclaimed director Spike Lee (DO THE RIGHT THING, MALCOLM X) stamps his own individual mark on the action thriller genre--a genre that he doesn’t normally work in--with INSIDE MAN, a film full of smart twists, snappy dialogue, and interesting character developments. However, the reoccurring theme of ethnic politics displayed in Lee’s previous work is once again prevalent and he once again decides to use New York as the backdrop for the action. Lee manages to turn what could have been a standard thriller into a stylish, kinetic and ultra-sharp film. Denzel Washington (TRAINING DAY) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (KINKY BOOTS) produce sterling performances as the two detectives attempting to control the volatile situation, while the film also greatly benefits from the skills of Clive Owen, Jodie Foster, and Willem Defoe (SPIDER-MAN). The dense, multi-layered, yet always entertaining plot combined with Lee’s adrenaline-fuelled style makes for a superb and breath-taking film.
