Another cinema night with our Unlimited cinema card and another film! This time it was the Incredible Hulk as even though this is not one of the newer releases I wanted to see it on the big screen before it stops showing!
The film I was hoping would be action packed and I wasn't disappointed by it. The CGI was well done as is the acting - even my wife enjoyed it and she wasn't really that keen on seeing it in the first place!
The Plot - The story follows Bruce Banner as we start off at the beginning seeing where tests went wrong and he escaped from the military and the scientists. He has been living in Brazil and trying to keep control over his powers. However the government are constantly looking for him and due to a mistake on his part they manage to trace him. He then has to run from them which leads him back to his old flame Betty. He now also has to contend with Emil Blonsky, who out of such a desire to become stronger and to capture Bruce will try anything.....
Cast
- The cast has a great line up with Edward Norton playing the role of Bruce Banner. Liv Tyler plays the part of Betty and in the role of Emil we see Tim Roth. William Hurt stars as the general Ross also known as Thunderbolt and is also Betty's father.
Edward Norton was a choice that I think everyone was pleasantly surprised about. He is a very talented actor and many were eager to see him perform in this role. I am glad to say I wasn't disappointed by him as he plays the part well. We see him as a man torn between wanting to be with his true love but, knowing that to keep her safe he must stay away from her. He is desperately trying to find a cure for his condition and eventually has no option but to return to America where he can meet with another scientist who thinks he has the cure. I thought Norton did very well in this role and was glad of the choice of actor overall for this part.
Liv Tyler I have not seen for a while in a film but she was ok. I wouldn't say there was anything amazing about her role but I do think she suited the part as she plays the role of Betty who is still very much in love with Bruce. You can see she is wanting to be with him but also unsure of what the Hulk is capable of. She also shows how upset she is with her father and like any other daughter who is put second best she is not happy that he does not think of her first.
In his role as General Ross was William Hurt. I thought he did well as he came across as determined and very much in charge. He was tough and didn't care what he had to do to capture the Hulk. He does care for his daughter but because of how much he desires to capture and experiment on Bruce he sometimes doesn't always do what he should where she is concerned. He is a good choice for the part as has the right attitude and look for the role.
Tim Roth was the guy chosen to play the role of Emil Blonsky and also the 'Abomination' and I think overall he was perfect for it. He somehow has the look of somebody who is tough and when is offered the gamma radiation to help him become a 'super soldier' he doesn't think twice about taking it! He shows us his great acting skills in this film and I thought after Norton himself he was the second best character in the film!
There are other characters in this film that we come into contact with who play a more minor part including Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns the scientist helping Bruce who we do not see until more than half way through the film and also Ty Burrell playing the part of Leonard who is Betty's new boyfriend.
Overall opinion - I was eager to see this film and was not disappointed by it. I enjoyed the action scenes which were fast paced and very well done and I was impressed by the look of the Hulk too. The Abomination was also very well done and this added to the whole comic book feel of the film. There is one particular scene where we get to see Norton actually changing up close into the Hulk and back again to human form and the special effects on this part I thought were excellent.
I would recommend anyone to see this before it leaves the big screen as it is a great film to see and an enjoyable 2 hours.
Interesting fact - Lou Ferrigno who played the Hulk in the TV series was actually in the film with s small part as a security gaurd and was even also the voice of the Hulk!
The film is directed by Louis Leterrier and is one of the Marvel comics brought to the big screen
