Series 1 of a lot of shows are not very good in hind-sight, but no so with the Inbetweeners.
The show is all about a group of A Level students in an inner city school. They are your typical lads, interested in nothing but sex and alcohol, and the comedy revolves around the different mix-ups they get into in pursuit of these goals.
The characters are a real mix, and that makes it so funny. The narrator of the show is the posh boy nerd, Will, who has come down to earth with a bang when he couldn't go to private school anymore. After a rough start (briefcase wa**er), he soon fits in with a group of mates who range from dumb as dumb can be (Neil), to filthy sex obsessed (Jay), and a bit normal (Simon).
A lot of this first season focuses on Will fitting into his new school, and making friends. Because of this, there’s a lot you can relate to about ‘being the new kid in school’, which is not the case with season 2.
The dialogue from Jay is as rude as it gets on prime-time TV, as he is ever on the hunt for 'clunge', so this is not one for the easily offended. This has seen the DVD certified an 18, despite there being no sex, nudity or violence.
The acting is simple, and the characters pretty one dimensional, but it's funny enough to forget all that.
Over-all, it's a risk taking, adult humour show that tells it as it is, with teenage boys always on the hunt for drink and women (preferably at the same time).
The great thing about this DVD is the extras it comes with: – Audio commentaries by the writers/cast/ producer – Video diaries from all four cast members – The making of documentary – Meet the cast (what the boys are really like) – Deleted scenes
These extras offer a lot for the fan-base who will eat it up!
All in all, a great DVD.
