This movie runs at 91 minutes. It's suitable for all ages, however one of the scenes where Quasimodo goes to the Festival Of Fools upset me (and is still quite hard for me to watch!) when I was younger, so parents might want to watch it themselves first. It has been said by many that it is not a movie for kids, but I'll leave it up for the parents to decide. I was 10 when I first seen this and I was fine, apart from the FOF scene.
There is quite an extensive list of people who lent their voicing talents for this movie, here are the main ones: Quasimodo: Tom Hulce Esmerelda: Demi Moore Frollo: Tony Jay Phoebus: Kevin Kline
This movie is set in Paris (as you may have guessed!) and tells the story of the bellringer Quasimodo, who is forbidden by his master Lord Frollo to leave Notre Dame. Quasimodo desperately wants to join the outside world but Frollo convinces him that he will never be accepted because of his appearance. Even so, he sneaks out one day to go to The Festival Of Fools. When the crowd turns on him, Esmerelda - a gypsy, who is also branded an outcast - sticks up for him, and ends up having to stay in Notre Dame, claiming sanctuary when Frollo is angered by her actions.
Quasimodo and Esmerelda become fast friends, and he helps her escape Notre Dame without Frollo realising. Once Frollo realises that Esmerelda escaped, he searches the whole of Paris, day and night to find her. Captain Phoebus however, does not agree with Frollos actions, and goes to help Esmerelda and the other gypsies with the help of Quasimodo. This of course does not sit well with Lord Frollo, and after he finds the Court Of Miracles (the gypsies hideout), he finally captures Esmerelda and Phoebus, and they are sentanced to death. Quasimodo is locked within the belltowers, and it seems they have no hope of survival or escape..
Here is a short run-down of the characters:
Quasimodo The bellringer of Notre Dame, he is ordered never to leave Notre Dame. His mother was a gypsy and died trying to protect him from Lord Frollo. The priest witnesses the death and orders Lord Frollo to raise Quasimodo.
Esmerelda A gypsy who doesn't seem to fit in. She is very kind and always helps those who need help, but she can hold her own when she needs to.
Frollo A greedy, heartless man content on capturing the gypsies. Does whatever it takes to get his own way.
Phoebus Captain Phoebus is good at his job and very dedicated, but he is a good man who won't harm anyone.
The songs in this movie are very memorable and fit in perfectly. The best scenes are when Quasimodo and Esmerelda help each other out, and the ending scene when Quasimodo realises he is no longer a prisoner and gains acceptance.
I love this movie and recommend it to anyone. It is quite a serious story, but with the help of Disney it also has comedic moments and lovable characters!

DVD Description
The characters in Victor Hugo's 1831 novel about lonely bell-ringer Quasimodo and his adventures with the beautiful Esmerelda come vividly and musically to life--even the stone gargoyles! This updated '90s version features Quasimodo as an awkward youth, a departure from the Hugo text. Featuring the voices of Tom Hulce, Jason Alexander, Demi Moore, Kevin Kline and David Ogden Stiers. Academy Award Nominations: Best Original Musical or Comedy Score.
