Recently I have been swapping DVDs with my friend ; I've been borrowing her 'up-to-date' movies and she's been watching my 'rom-coms'. One of the DVDs which I borrowed from my friend was a film called ' The House Bunny'.
The House Bunny is an American romantic comedy film released in the United Kingdom on 10th October 2008. This film stars Anna Faris , (who's previous films include , Just Friends and My Super Ex Girlfriend). Running time of the movie is ninety seven minutes (seven minutes over one hour and a half).
Shelley (Faris) is a playboy playmate living a luxury life in the playboy mansion. Soon after her twenty seventh birthday , she is told that she is now too old to be a playboy bunny and so it 'thrown out' of the playboy house. Feeling upset and lonely , she tries hard to fit in with other girl groups , although soon finding out that she is too different to them. However , soon she joins 'The Zetas'. How will being an ex-playboy girl be an advantage to how she is seen by the group ? Watch The House Bunny to find out!
I wasn't really sure what to expect when I first put this DVD on. I was wondering whether it would be another 'try-hard' and 'just-like-the-rest' kind of movie. I had seen Anna Faris in another film before , Just Friends , which I had thoroughly enjoyed and so was hoping that this film would live up to the success of that film.
This film is a good chick flick! Definately one to watch with the girls on a night in with hot chocolate and Ben and Jerry's ice cream. This movie isn't very original , but there is something about it which I liked very much! There are some serious giggles to be had though - so I was happy! I also liked how this movie kept me 'hooked' , yet was nice and simple to follow which meant I could watch it and 'chill out' at the same time.
This movie is a 12 , although I wouldn't really reccommend it to those under fifteen. There isn't a lot of bad language etc , just that it gives out the message to young girls that you should 'use your looks to get what you want' and that 'your looks will help you better yourself'. It isn't a bad film , just that it has that simple message in it , which I don't think is good for young girls , judging by how 'looks-obsessed' people are these day!
There are some very funny lines in this film which got me giggling. The cast , especially Anna Faris' comedy timing were spot on! Such lines which got me laughing include :
Shelley: [puts on Natalie's glasses] God, you need to go to the eye doctor! Natalie: I did. That's where I got my glasses.
* * * * * * * * * * * Shelley: The eyes are the nipples of the face. * * * * * * * * * * * Mrs. Hagstrom: [about the college] This is not a brothel. Shelley: Oh, I'm not looking to make soup.
One of the 'funniest' things I found in the movie , was the main character , Shelley's 'technique' of remembering the names of the girls she meets. She insists on repeating their names in a 'frog like' voice as she claims , this helps her remember names easily. This film is certainly a silly movie ; one which shouldn't be taken seriously , yet can still be a pleasure to watch.
I would reccommend this film to all chick-flick lovers , although only to chick-flick lovers over the age of fifteen (even though the film is classed as a 12).
Thanks For Reading! August 21st 2009 xdonzx
