I'll openly admit it - I love the Playboy bunny (not the magazine, as somebody once thought!). And do I have anything against Playboy Bunny Girl? Not at all! So when I heard The House Bunny was a film about, well, a Bunny Girl from the Playboy Mansion, I couldn't wait to see it, and began counting down the days unti the 10th of October when it was released here in the UK.
That day finally arrive, and that evening I went to the latest screening of The House Bunny. As the story progressed, I learned that it was about a playboy bunny named Shelly who was 'thrown' out of the playboy mansion because of her age. Fortunately, she is not homeless for long, as she is taken into a sorority house, Zeta Alpha Zeta. In Zeta, she finds there are seven girls, each individual, who are the least popular people around. They needed thirty pledges to keep their House open, but it did not look like they were going to obtain even one. Shelly decides to move herself in as their House Mother and help them find the pledges, but can she pull it off?
All through the film, I was eager to find out if Shelly managed to get the pledges or not. One moment they were on a high, the next they had been dragged right back down again. Only time would tell if they would find them! Fortunately, the film was not too long, just the right length I'd say, at an hour and a half (or 97 minutes according to Imdb.com - ooh, so precise!).
I feel one of the things that made this film so amazing were the actors. Shelly was played by Anna Faris, whom I have admired for many a year now. She's known for roles in shows such as 'Friends', 'Just Friends', 'Scary Movie 4', and 'My Super-Ex Girlfriend'. Something I was quite pleased to see was the fact that Hef' - owner of the Playboy Mansion - was actually played by Hugh M. Hefner himself; a nice little touch I feel! I thought quite a memorable performance was given by Emma Stone, who played Natalie - one of the 'rejects' in the Zeta. Her character had so much depth and she portrayed her fantastically - so believable and true. In fact, all the cast were fantastic!
I thought the 'costume' was quite fascinating in itself too. Quite often the cast will be wearing nothing but skimpy skirts and underwear. There, I feel this film is suitable for the man. However, the film is rated 12A, which is quite reasonable; there are no sex scenes in this film, unlike possible predictions. I will admit that there is a little swearing, but what twelve year old has not heard (or uses), such vulgar language nowadays anyway!
A lot of films have their own soundtrack, but The House Bunny took songs from the charts. A few of the tracks memorable include Girlfriend (Avril Lavigne) and a few by the PussyCat Dolls. They were quite upbeat and fitted well into the fast-paced movie. The film is directed by Fred Wolf, and it is clear to see that he has done a great job with piecing everything together too, not just slotting in the music! The film was written by Kirsten Smith (also written for Legally Blonde, Ella Enchanted...), and Karen McCullah Lutz (written for She's The Man, Ella Enchanted). There are quite some memorable quotes I could dictate to you that they have provided us with, quite humerus ones to make this Comedy what it is. Though I shall not spoil it for you, I will let you find out for yourself!
This is quite an amazing, girlie film (though of course suitable for any guy!) and is definitely worth going to see! Everything fits together well and the story progresses smoothly! When it ended, I was most unhappy, and I cant wait for the DVD to be released!
Advantages: Good story, outstanding performance by Anna Faris. Disadvantages: Colin hanks, some bad humours.
...He started directing movies; though the first movie Strange Wilderness is not that successful. The next project was The House Bunny, and this movie gained some popularity for its simple and funny storyline and brilliant acting by the lead character played by Anna Faris. The other day I felt like watching a fun film that didn't require a great deal of attention, and ended up finally giving The House Bunny a go, which I've been meaning to watch for a while. I wasn't expecting anything particularly clever or original, and the film didn't deliver either, but it was entertaining at least.

Review
THE HOUSE BUNNY is a blissfully broad comedy that should catapult Anna Faris into a singular kind of stardom (Variety, 29/08/2008)
DVD Description
Comic actress Anna Faris (LOST IN TRANSLATION, SCARY MOVIE) shines in her starring turn in THE HOUSE BUNNY, a hilarious and heartfelt tale of female empowerment. As the film opens, Shelly Darlingson (Farris) is Big Bunny on Campus at Hugh Hefner's Playboy Mansion. With her 27th birthday approaching, Shelly eagerly anticipates fulfilling her dream: to be centrefold of the month. But when she learns that she's being booted from Bunnyland, Shelly finds herself with no family or place to call home. Desperate for both, she lucks across the socially inept sisters of the Zeta Alpha Zeta sorority. With no hope of attracting new pledges and the consequent threat of losing their sorority, the girls of Zeta take in the bubbly Shelly as their new "house mother." Shelly immediately sets to work helping the Zetas bring out their inner “glamazons”, luring in boys while drawing the ire of rival sorority Phi Iota Mu. Shelly also catches the eye of Oliver (Colin Hanks), who forces her to realize that it will take more her Playboy Mansion ways to win over a good man. Plus, Shelly discovers that her social insights have transformed the Zetas into the very superficial types they once railed against. And when Hugh Hefner calls to offer Shelly her dream centrefold shoot, she must choose between returning to the family that loved her best and saving the family that needs her most. Faris (who co-produced the film) is a comic delight as Shelly, with a perfect blend of sexy charm and sweet-natured cluelessness. Supported by an excellent cast of fresh faces and seasoned veterans, THE HOUSE BUNNY is an irresistible tale of inner beauty and "sisters" sticking together.
