Not one for drama films, this really drew me in and I found both the characters, soundtrack and story incredibly compelling. The Oscar nominations were deserved. Although the plot in some respects is straight-forward, three woman at three points in time, it is difficult to fully explain what is to happen and how their three lives become intertwined. That said, it is worth devoting an evening to this and making sure there are no distractions, to fully appreciate the atmosphere created by Stephen Daldry's direction and the minimalistic score by Phillip Glass. This is one of those films that made me take a long, hard look at myself afterwards and think about the choices you make in life and how we treat others. I don't mean to be too serious(!) but you need to be opened-minded and committed to this film right to the end to fully enjoy. Despite this glowing review, I recommend renting as opposed to buying though!

I see you've posted this as a DVD review, but you've not mentioned the DVD features. Are there any extras? If so, what are they and are they any good? If you add to this, or if you change it to be posted as a "Film Only" review, which can be done by accessing "edit review" above the review and changing the drop down menu under the "Which format are you reviewing?" question at the bottom, please let me know and I'll re-rate.
