Director: Rob Minkoff Producers: Andrew Gunn and Don Hahn Writer: David Berenbaum Stars: Eddie Murphy, Jennifer Till, Terence Stamp, Marsha Thompson and Nathaniel Parker.
Released in 2003, this comedy/horror is good entertainment for all the family.
**BRIEF PLOT**
Jim and Sara Evers, (Eddie Murphy and Marsha Thomason) own their own Real Estate and are asked to value a rather distinctive property, called Gracey Manor, hidden away on some waste land in Louisianna. So, as they head of on a family vacation with there children 10-year-old Michael, (played by Marc John Jefferies) and 13-year-old Megan, (played by Aree Davis), workaholic Jim decides to visit the place to the irritation of the rest of his family.
When they arrive at the dilapidated building they are forced to stay longer than necessary due to sudden obligatory downpour, creating a landslide and blocking the only road in and out.
There is, however, a more sinister reason for the owner of Gracy Manor, Master Edward Gracy, (played by Nathaniel Parker), to want Sara Evers as his houseguest…which soon becomes apparent as you continue watching.
Gracy Manor has a strange and ghostly secret which is unravelled in the film, with a brilliant twist toward the end.
**IN CONCLUSION**
With some very peculiar looking ghost and a rather devilish butler this film is entertaining for all the family.
The story line is not the best but does create a very good ghostly/comedy/horror movie for the entire family, {including those of a nervous disposition}. The special effects, creating the ghost and ghouls, are just right for the type of audience that the film is aimed at, they are not too scary and not too tacky….just right.
And with Eddie Murphy being his usually comical self this is one movie that you need to see, even if it's just the once.
I enjoyed watching this movie and found it more comical than scary, (if that was the writers intentions it worked well).
A good film for all the family.
