Brilliant film. I bought this in the reduced section in Morrisons. I took a shine to the cover as it had skateboards on it and thought, i'll buy that. So I did, I got home and watched it and I was so amazed by it. The story line has such meaning to it yet the film is hilarious. I think this is good to show skaters how to get to the top like the legendary Tony Hawk. This film is about 4 college students that have just finished their final year and want to do something with their life. The path they want to take is the making of a professional skate team named "Super Duper Skateboards" and to gain as many sponsors as possible. The only problem is the battle to the top. The film is a series of competitions to fight their way to become pro yet they still manage to get distracted by women and their opposing competitors. The film has a linear narrative structure as the film shows the four guys travelling around America slowly becoming professional. As a skateboarder I can understand how hard it is to get sponsered nowadays because of heavy competition so this film is a good representation. What I also like about the film is that it shows the very comic side to their travels. Some of the special effects used are good and I think the skateboarding stunts are absolutely fantastic. For anyone that skates they will know what this means: there is a part when Eric skitches a quad bike and does a huge 360 indy over about 10 superloos using a ramp. An amazing shot and I'd love to shake hands with the stunt man. This film is not a documentary but it does show the bare truth about the skateboarding world.
Cast: Mike Vogal - Eric Vince Vieluf - Matt Adam Brody - Dustin Joey Kern - Sweet Lou Jason London - Jimmy Wilson Bam Margera - Himself Mike Valley (appears in skate scenes) Bob Burnquist (appears in skate scenes) And many other professional skateboarders that done most of the skateboarding stunts.
I really took a shine to the music used within the movie too. I think it has one of the best soundtracks on any film ever made. The soundtrack includes bands like Less Than Jake, Shine Down, Unwritten Law, Hot Action Cop, SLR Whitestarr, etc. If you are not into skateboarding you may not be too interested in the film but it is still a good laugh and hey, Adam Brody from the OC and Bam Margera from Jackass star in it, that must be a bonus!
Advantages: Classic trailers for awful films Disadvantages: None
...of the Blaxploitation era will be treated to Truck Turner starring Isaac Hayes best known now as the voice of Chef from South Park, and Pam Grier movies Coffy, and The Big Doll House. While more modern movies are featured with the appearance of Death Ship and The Perils Of Gwendoline.
Among the 55 trailers featured are some trailers never before seen in the UK. Granted watching trailers might not seem like that much fun, but believe me if you have a good sense of humour and a thirst for movie trivia this DVD will keep you amused for weeks.

Advantages: funny, enjoyable, good picture Disadvantages: no extras of real worth
...' constant fallback on middle class london dinner party characters that raised their ugly heads in Bridget Jones as well.
As for the dvd well the film is presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen. The trasnfer is very good with a sharp picture quailty and no real signs of print blemishes and dirt. The sound is a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix that is pretty limited to the front speakers but you normally find this with most comedy mixes.
Now for the extras goodies, what you get is the trailer, some cast/crew biographies, production notes and pointless map of notting hill with some referance points. Now compare this to the Region 1 that get's an audio commentary, deleted scenes, isolated score track and a segment with Hugh Grant and you can see that once again the UK dvd owner get's shafted. This grinds me even more when the film is quite british...

Plot: If the world needs even more proof that skateboarding is a mainstream institution as opposed to an underground phenomenon, GRIND does the trick. Casey La Scala's lighthearted adventure introduces three friends who have just graduated from high school. Eric (Mike Vogel) is determined to make it as a professional skater. He convinces the college-bound Dustin (Adam Brody) and wisecracking Matt (Vince Vieluf) to join him on the road for a summer of contests, with the hopes of getting sponsored by superstar Jimmy Wilson (Jason London). Once they manage to recruit the smooth-talking Sweet Lou (Joey Kern) and his trusty van, the foursome hits the road. Things don't go as planned, however, to the point where Eric considers giving up. But that's when Jamie (Jennifer Morrison) enters the picture. Sweet, pretty, and a radical skater herself, Jamie gives Eric the opportunity to strut his stuff at one of the summer's most heated competitions. Never taking itself too seriously, GRIND is a pleasant ensemble comedy that features inspired performances from its up and coming cast. It is also filled with enough cameos to keep film fanatics on their toes (Randy Quaid, Tom Green, Bobcat Goldthwait).
