This is a superb film that has been adapted from the superb book written by Stephen King that has received so much praise. This film proves that a film can outclass a book especially with superb directing by, in this case, Frank Darabont who directed the Shawshank Redemption.
I would personally regard The Green Mile as an epic because of the sheer fact of the great detail and the true realisation of what life on death row is like. The general storyline of the film involves four or five prisoners who are being held on death row after they have been sentenced to death. The film possesses a very high quality set of actors with barely any women in the film.
The cast of the Green Mile includes Tom Hanks (playing Paul Edgecomb) who stars as the head guard of the death row known as the Green Mile. His ward also includes fellow actors David Morse, Bonnie Hunt, James Cromwell and Mike Jeter who you may have noticed were also in Saving Private Ryan like Tom Hanks. They all help run the ward along with a young man called Percy who is played by Doug Hutchinson). His mother is high up in the command of the town and has a governing say on the running of the Green Mile.
The film begins with men being held on death row by the guards whose aim is to hold the prisoners before their death. Their death is by electric chair of which the process is very important else the body will ‘fry’!!
The main character on the death row is known as John Coffey who is played by Michael Clarke Duncan. He is being held despite the fact he didn’t kill anybody. He is very emotional despite his size. He possesses magical powers of healing people which saves 3 people in the length of the film. Paul, the head guard is having problems at the start of the film with his delicate area and John Coffey is the one who saves him.
The Green Mile is definitely worth seeing despite there being a lot of unnecessary twists which are still good to see and the fact that the film never seems to end.

This is an absolutely fantastic film like you say, the sympathy you have for the main character is perfectly pitched.

I watched this just the other night and thought it was a great film. However, so many people had old me beforehand that I'd cry a lot at the end ....I didn't cry one bit! - probably because I expected to ...still thoroughly enjoyable though.
