This film should be shown as a team building exercise in big companies where such exercises are widespread. This would do the trick better than any talks, seminars or conferences.
Secondly, if you've ever given up on something you really wanted, then watch this film, reflect on it carefully, get up and go get what it is you wanted. This film could really make you do that.
This film is based on the real-life experiences for a group of young men captured during WW2 and sent to this newly built, supposedly high security POW camp. Now this is no ordinary group of men, these are some of the greatest esape artists to ever live, and had all previously escaped on numerous occasions. So why you ask did the Germans put this lot together?
Well, it is explained in the film that the Germans believe that the best option is to put all the bad eggs in one basket and watch this basket very carefully.
Of course this idea is obsurd and after just entering the camp some of the men are already mastering their escape. To do this they would have to work as a team, and this leads to great relationship building between the men, captured brilliantly on film.
Now, i am sure many of you will recognise more of the cast than i did but the biggest names are those of Steve McQueen, Richard Attenborough and Donald Pleasence, but the list is very long.
As the men go about digging three tunnels, they have to think of ingenius ways of ditributing the dirt, getting the air down the tunnels, lighting, tools and many other things. Now this really does entertain, and some how makes the time fly by.
This film really is all about the men, focus is always on them and we get to see the interaction between them and realise more about the will power and drive that keeps them going. Even when things aren't looking good, they keep their chins up, look on the bright side and get on with the task at hand.
The tradegy behind this film is not forgotten though and during the film your heart strings will be pulled on many occasions, climaxing with scenes that will make most viewers shed a tear or two.
With some great stunts chucked in for good measure, including McQueen's unforgetable motorcycle stunt, this film lacks very little that a film needs.
The main score, i am sure, everyone will know as the tune used by England football fans to cheer on the team and why not when it reflects so well on what is a film to lift your spirits.
