I bought this DVD because I couldn't wait to own it and find out all about the film and how it was made.

I wish I would've waited.

Set in 1943 Nazi Germany and based on a true story, we follow the exploits of Hilts (Steve McQueen), Hendley (James Garner), Bartlett (Richard Attenborough), Blythe (Donald Pleasence) and Sedgewick (James Coburn). They and many like them find themselves held in the prisoner of war camp - Stalag Luft III.

We follow their many and varied escape attempts and always seem to come full circle to Hilts, with his baseball, back in the cooler. The philosophy of all at the camp is one of a great team, either they all get out together, or nobody does.

A true war film with a refreshing lack of guns, bombs and violence and one of the greatest chases every committed to film.

A special edition of this DVD is currently scheduled for May 2002, it will have an Audio Commentary, a couple of documentaries and a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack.

The colours are extremely vivid, the sound is unforgettable - even without a decent mix on the DVD -and the storyline is an absolute classic, one which has truly stood the test of time and will continue to do so.

The film is certainly one worth owning in a collection of any size, you just need to decide if you'll buy this one or wait for the special edition of the DVD.

Each FH and UH rating gives negative points so it is always a good idea to update reviews with as much information as possible about the product. If you do add more let those who have already rated this review know and most will hopefully re-read and re-rate.
