Synopsis! ******************************************************************* One miserable day…in the middle Astoria , there are four children, or should I say four Goonies sat around at home wondering what life is going to be like on the mean streets of Chicago when they find out that an aggressive businessman is going to foreclose on their beloved ‘goon docks.’ Instead of wallowing in their own misery they decide to raid their attic after being warned by Mikey’s mother not to. Up there they find many old artefacts such as mirrors, maps, old paintings and even electric balls, all of which belongs to Mikey’s old time adventurer father who now paints buildings for a living and cannot afford to pay for their home before it gets transformed into a high class golf course. Whilst up in the attic Mikey finds a map and a doubloon of the tour to the buried treasure of One Eyed Willy which then makes him bursts out into story mode and forces him to give away his knowledge of One Eyed Willy to the rest of the Goonies Mikey’s older brother Brand inclusive. Then there is a ring at the door and answering comes all four boys and Brand politely taking papers off the man who wishes to demolish their homes. When back inside, Mikey and the others plot a plan to enable them to escape from Brands claws and into the wild to identify the location of the One Eyed Willies treasure.
Their adventure begins the typical Goonie way with the moaning of Chunk that his tea is going to get cold and nobody gave him a candy bar when they promised they would, but all becomes gravy when they find a fitting to the doubloon, with the Restaurant, the lighthouse and the rocks, and so beginning on to the restaurant the Goonies set out for a great adventure. Once the kids had broken into the restaurant and looked around, they are busted by, manager/ criminal along with her sons, Frances and Jake, but the Goonies are unaware of this and ask for four glasses of water and perch at the nearest picnic table. Then Mikey explains to the Miss. Fratelli, (the manager/criminal) that he as to go to the bathroom and with the order ‘Stay to the Right’ he carries on down the corridor ignoring the anxious warnings of Mouth. Whilst down in the dingy, damp basement style corridors Mikey came across a noise, a noise scarier than any other, it sounded to him like a roar and without doubt he went to investigate. So slowly and carefully he follows the noise and ends up in the cellar where he sees the strangest most petrifying sight he had ever seen. Sloth. In sight Sloth is the most terrifying creature known to man but Mikey realises that all he wants is a little bit of attention and to be treated like a normal person. So Mikey go back to the Goonies and informs them of his discovery, but the miss. Fratelli throws them out of her restaurant before he could show them and prove to them that Sloth is real, and so the Goonies all sit around and wait the Fratelli’s to leave so they could carry on their expedition. Finally they leave and the kids go back inside the restaurant, but once inside they are all given the fright of their life when Mikey’s older brother Brand sneaks up on them and terrifies them. Brand is followed in by two hysteric girls named Andi and Stef screaming before explaining that they had seen something outside. They then persuade Brand that he should let them carry on their adventure and he does, but follows them all the way. So the Goonies set out the rest of their journey to find the English Armada and the excess treasure which could save the Goondocks from demolishment.
The rest of the movie is mostly predictable but is extremely fun to watch none the less, and the comedic, familiar feature bases it’s thought on hilarious one liner’s and legendary scenes with absolutely 100% credit for the actors/ actresses performances. The movie is completely fabulous and has amazing energy with fantastic thrilling moments which cling to you for decades afterwards.
Sean Astin ************************************************************************ Some of you may know Sean Astin’s older personality through features such as; Lord of the Rings where he played the supporting role as Samwise Gamgee, or in 24 in which he played intelligent Lynn McGill, this Oscar nominated, academy award winning actor is perfectly fabulous with realistic performances which grasp your heart and soul. In the Goonies however Astin is 12 and yet still fantastic his presence brings life to the movie and without him, I believe the other actors/ actresses would have struggled.
Astin’s performance rating- ***** 5 stars
Corey Feldman ************************************************************************ Ok, I know Corey Feldman in his older years is a bit of a disappointment, what with the drugs and the rehab and everything, but let’s face it in his younger he was the best of his time. Take his performance as the crazy man’s son in Stand by Me, that movie starred plenty of fucked up kids in it but teddy (Feldman) was the one we all felt sympathy for. With four winning awards and five nominations including, exceptional performance by a young actor in The Goonies, Feldman had vastly become one of the most famous child stars and his performance in The Goonies is not let down at all. Feldman plays Clark Devereaux aka Mouth whom is the comedian of the gang. He’s loud hence the name but he also brings hilarious humour, tremendous fun and fabulous fashion to this awesome movie.
Feldman’s performance rating-*****
Jeff Cohen ************************************************************************ Cohen plays the slightly chunky, favourable, funky Lawrence Cohen aka Chunk. Cohen is one liner wonder of the movie. Nominated for two academy awards both for The Goonies, Cohen also reaches one of my fave child actors. He is not very well known and has not featured in many movies but I cannot compare his performance in the movie to anyone current child stars in the making.
Cohen’s performance rating- **** 4 stars
Jonathon Ke Quan ************************************************************************ Quan’s most famous performance is in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in which he plays Short Round. Quan also is not famous for his acting career and has not featured in many movies The Goonies and Jones being his most famous but wining two academy awards and nominated for a further one Quan is again a great child star. In The Goonies Quan plays the inventive young Data. Who ends up saving his own life with one of his inventions in which he calls ‘pinches of pow.’ The young boy is also the part of the brains of the gang alongside Mikey the two help guide themselves through their investigation.
Quan’s performance rating- **** 4 stars
Josh Brolin ************************************************************************ Brolin plays Brand the over-protective big brother of Mikey Walsh. His performance is also outstanding. He is also love interest of Andi, whom is being chased by high school heart throb Troy who tries to ruin Brand but does not succeed and is left only with a but lip and no Andi. Brolin was nominated for one blockbuster entertainment award for his role in Hollowman and his nomination was well deserved.
Brolin’s performance rating- **** 4 stars
Overall movie rating ************************************************************************ I would give this movie an overall 10 out of 10 because of the exciting nature of it and it has fantastic energy, the comedy is the best of the 1980’s and I loved every second of it.
GO BUY IT! NOW!
It rocks!

Chunk: Mikey this is great! We only have old chaunaka decorations in our attic. What's this stuff all about? Mikey: It has something to do with my dad being the assistant curly, curny. Brandon Walsh: [Smacking Mikey on the back of the head] Curator. Mikey: That's what I said. You always contradict me, I knew what I-. There was an exhibit. About the history of Astoria and these are the rejects. Chunk: Kind of like us Mike... The Goonies. Mouth: I'm not a reject.
Special Features *************************************************************************** Feature-Length Commentary with Director Richard Donner and Actors Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton and Jonathan Ke Quan; This feature is kind of self-explanatory, it exposes a scene showing the cast plus Richard Donner and the thoughts of the cast now that they are old enough to appreciate the comedy. :-)
Making-Of Featurette- This one explains the in-workings of Richard Donner's genius mind and interviews with the cast members, discussing the way they felt making it as young actors.
Cyndi Lauper "The Goonies ‘R’ Good Enough" Music Video- Also self- explanatory, but i must say I LOVE THIS SONG.
Plus- Outtakes, three deleted scenes and a theatrical trailer.
Overall i am very impressed with the quality of the DVD extras, even though there are not many they are still enjoyable and fun for all ages as well as the movie.
Would i recommend it and who to? ************************************************************************** I would recommend this movie to any potential family, comedy genre movie buyers. The film is exciting and fun for all ages and is perfect for a night in with popcorn and snacks.

Advantages: Could this be THE perfect film? Disadvantages: None, absolutely none
...This is probably one of the best films ever made, its perfection is so awesome I cannot begin to describe it to you! But I will try. I think.
The basic premise of the story is thus: criminal family the Fratelli's are on the run and find this old restaurant as a hiding place; meanwhile, four kids (The Goonies - Mikey, Chunk, Data and Mouth) and one older brother (Brandon) find a map directing them to secret treasure in Mikey's Dad's attic. The map ... ...due for demolition soon for the country club members to put a golf course over it. Realising that finding buried treasure could mean saving their home (and keeping the Goonies together), the four kids, Brandon and two girls his age (Andy and Steff) embark on a treasure hunt - of course, bringing them into conflict with the Fratelli's, who also learn of the treasure and are determined to get their dirty criminal hands on it before the Goonies do.

...A film that stirs up the same warm feelings that Labyrinth did. That film, is of course, the goonies. Released in 1985, this film is a collaberation of Speilberg, and Colombus. So, it had to be good. Speilberg Has a way with kids films. He seems to blend in that extra touch of magic. The film is best described as an adventure, with a good whack of comedy thrown in. ...movies from your childhood then The Goonies has to be near the top of all time favourite classics. The Goonies came out in 1985 and was directed by Richard Donner.

Of course they will ....
This is a classic film from its time (1985) and has everything you'd expect from an 80's adventure film: bad hair cuts, hollywood kids in major roles, and not a jot of CGI in sight. No sir, that skeleton ghost ship is real. The plot is perhaps a little obvious; kids find map, kids find bad guys, ... ...this is your film.
The acting is very good - even from the kids - and you can't help but get drawn in. The film is shot and produced exceptionally well and you can tell its a Steven Spielberg film. The sets and props are amazing and the traps brilliant. I can't really say much more than that without giving too much away.
This isn't the best film of all time, but I still watch it now, some 15 years or more after it was made. The soundtrack isn't ...

But I don't want too give too much away.
Jack Black is hilarious as always and you can tell he absolutely loved doing this film. He suits the character so well and i cannot fault his acting.
It's a great "Gives that warm, fuzzy feeling" film and it's going to stay in my DVD collection for my daughter to enjoy in the next couple of years-along with The Goonie, Back to the Future and The Lost Boys!
The DVD is pretty cheap to buy, you can get it on Amazon or Play.com for a couple of quid, or the supermarket bargain buckets. It will actually probably be cheaper to buy than to rent.
There is also a soundtrack available, it has a mixture of rock classics and songs for the "School of Rock" band.

-time greatest sports movies. Not only does it have a genuinely great cast and the acting is fantastic, but it explores some sides of American Football that not many people would know about, like illegal drug taking to enhance performance, physiotherapists who push players to play when perhaps they shouldn't because the pressure to win is so great and the ego's of some players.
As I said earlier the ending is amazing and the speech Al Pacino gives is very memorable. Well worth purchasing on DVD.

Advantages: So many memories, and still an enjoyable film Disadvantages: Some of the extras were better in theory than in practice
Late 1985 was a great time to be ten years old. Stephen Spielberg was looking out for the kids, seemingly producing films with us in mind as the target audience. In early December, we had the wild entertainment that was "Back to the Future", which outperformed and overshadowed an equally fun release of the week before "The Goonies".
Whilst "Back to the Future" spawned two sequels and a fancy DVD box set, released in 2002, fans of "The Goonies" had to wait two more years for their chance to see the film at its best. Even then, it was released with little fanfare and looks more like a collection of bits thrown together to make the whole, rather than a film with lots of additional features like so many of today's DVD releases do. To be fair, this may be due to the fact that no-one really saw the advent of DVD in 1985 and so all ...
