Sergio Leone's definitive spagetti western and the grand finale to the "Dollars" Trilogy. This is a stunning view of the harsh life of cowboys during the American Civil War. This is a simple story of the efforts of three gunslingers to find a fortune in gold hidden in the wasteland.
The Good
Though the story is simple Leone creates a incredibly complex narrative structure where the paths of these three vagrants intertwine and are wrapped up with the ongoing war. The violence of the Civil War shocks even thses violent men. This film shows moral standards and even the cold Clint Eastwood manages to show humanity.
The Bad
It is difficult to find bad things about this film. One possible problem is that the budget for this film whislt being dramatically higher than Leone's other dollars films is still too small to really do this film it's full credit.
The Ugly
Torture scenes, mindless violence and bloody battles are rife in this film enjoyed by many but may be a little too much for small children.
This film, although not up to the standard of Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West is an incredibly strong film which features one of the finest musical scores for a film ever.
