Ford Coppola turned the story of Don Vito Corleone into an epic, multi-generational metaphor for modern American society and its place in the world. Coppola's musical choices were equally sage; aged Italian scoring legend Nino Rota's mournful solo trumpet theme ("Godfather Waltz") would become both a crucial, emotional link in all three films and an enduring modern icon on a par with the themes to Star Wars and Jaws. This compendium gathers key themes from the Godfather trilogy in modern rerecordings by conductor Paul Bateman and the Prague Philharmonic that are sonically pristine and faithful to the originals. Utilising the rich musical heritage of his native Italy (and occasionally evoking memories of his great collaborations with Fellini), Rota's Godfather music would ultimately net him his only Oscar, for Godfather II. Carmine Coppola, the director's father, supplements Rota's work with music that's more distinctly ethnic, while the prelude from Italian classical composer Pietro Mascagani's masterful opera Cavalleria Rusticana becomes a crucial element in Godfather III, filling the void left by Rota's passing in 1979.--Jerry McCulley

“I’m gonna make him an offer he can’t refuse” (Don Vito Corleone). An Oscar Winning Performance by Marlon Brando as the patriarch of the family standing as the all respected and powerful Godfather. The Godfather is an epically chilling story of a Sicilian family’s rise and near fall from power in America, and the passage of rites from father to son. Coppola masterfully balances the story between family life and the ugly business of crime in which they are engaged. This movie has garnered ten Academy Nominations and itself is graphically thrilling and entertaining.
Main Cast: Marlon Brando ; James Caan ; Richard Castellano ; Robert Duvall ; Al Pacino ; Sterling Hayden ; Talia Shire ; Diane Keaton ; John Cazale ; John Marley ; Richard Conte ; Al Lettieri
GODFATHER PART II (1974) Certificate (18) – Disc 2 + 3 Duration 3 hours and 10 minutes (Approx)
Godfather 2 continues the Saga of two generations of successive power within the Corleone family. Coppola successfully tells two Story’s in Part II. The roots and rise of young Don Vito Corleone, played brilliantly by an Oscar Winning Performance by the talents of Robert De Niro, and the chilling life of Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) as the new Don. Taking on the role as the all-powerful family leader, the movie shows the similarities in life crossed between Father (Vito) and Son (Michael). Coppola has produced here a movie of sheer magnitude and vision and arguably one of the best sequels ever made, if not the best. This movie received twelve Academy Awards nominations and was named ‘Best Picture’.
Main Cast: Al Pacino ; Robert Duvall ; Diane Keaton ; Robert De Niro ; John Cazale ; Marianna Hill ; Lee Strasberg ; Talia Shire ; Bruno Kirby ; G. D. Spradlin ; Richard Bright
GODFATHER PART III (1990) Certificate (15) – Disc 4 Duration 2 hours and 43 minutes (Approx)
“I swear on the lives of my Children, give me a chance to redeem myself and I will sin no more” (Don Michael Corleone). The great story continues, Michael Corleone now in his 60s is deeply torn between passion and worry of his children and the fate of his empire. To free his family from crime and finding a suitable successor is the drive of his life. That successor could very well be fiery Vincent (Andy Garcia) but he may also be the spark that turns Michaels hope of business legitimacy into an inferno of mob violence. Francis Ford Coppola incredibly brings back the Corleone family after many years and has masterfully revisited the themes of power, tradition, revenge and love. This movie was nominated for seven Academy Awards including ‘Best Picture’.
Main Cast: Al Pacino ; Diane Keaton ; Talia Shire ; Andy Garcia ; Eli Wallach ; Bridget Fonda ; George Hamilton ; Joe Mantegna ; Sofia Coppola ; Raf Vallone ; Richard Bright
An immensely quantified disc with over 3 hours of Behind The Scenes footage, a well-presented Family Tree of the Corleone family, Photo Galleries, Theatrical Trailers, Acclaim and Response, Additional Scenes/ Chronology and Filmmaker Biographies. Everything you need to know about the Godfather, from Mario Puzo’s Novel to the making of Godfather. Did you know Al Pacino wasn’t even going to have a role in The Godfather? Yes its true, I won’t give too much away but for you Godfather fanatics, you really should check this disc out.
Please note that I have only given you a brief overview of each movie. If by any chance you need to know more about the movie, then I do suggest you watch the movie. Like many great movies alike, words cannot describe the sheer magic and brilliance of which the movies portray.
With regards to how it Costs, I think its reasonably Priced considering what you get for your money. It really depends on where you buy it from? Prices can range from about £30 to £60. One of the cheapest places I have seen it is on CD WOW at £31.99 including delivery. If you need the full web address, then let me know and I’d be happy to give you it.
A must have for any serious DVD collector; presented in a luxurious reinforced box that noticeably states the movie resemblance of money, power, tradition and love.
Thanks very much for reading, all comments welcome :)

Advantages: Two of three films are bonafide masterpieces. 21 hours of stuff. Disadvantages: Not as pristine a collection as it could have been.
The Godfather Collection is the much anticipated dream package film lovers and DVD owners have been waiting for. Rumors of the production of the package began more than a year ago and after much anticipation, and speculation it has arrived. I wish I could tell you The Collection exceeded the high expectations and delivered absolutely everything , everyone ... ...be told, while all the films look very good, they are far from perfect and improvements could have and should have been made. In addition, most of the bonus material contained on the 5th DVD is made up of material that Godfather lovers and film buffs have already seen. There are only a couple of new things . Now don't get me wrong, it's wonderful that it's been collected and put together on these discs but I was yearning for something new, something ...

The Godfather (1972) was a landmark picture in mafia movies, which broke the "Hollywood mould" in that its sequel, The Godfather Part Two, was arguably better than the film that spawned it. Pacino joined an experienced and big named cast including Academy Award Winner Marlon Brando, James Caan, and Robert Duvall, ... ...director Francis Ford Coppola in the making of the films that have now become known as The Godfather Trilogy. Quick review of The Godfather Trilogy (Box Set) (DVD)
From a drama, crime thriller and `gangsta` flick perspective this trilogy not just satisfies on all levels but fulfils until the end. This epic is best followed continually, if you can take it, to really appreciate this intricate story of a family and the tribulations that occur from their world. (Extras are quite interesting also). ...

Advantages: One of the best trilogy of films ever made. Disadvantages: I would seriously struggle to think of any!
The Godfather trilogy has to go down as one of my personal favorites.
There's little point giving a synopsis...as I'm sure the story is so well known - but if you have never seen this...but it at one, you will not regret it.
The storyline itself is quite simply...following the fortunes of the Corleone family from the arrival in New york of the Don (Vito)....through the the rise of Michael...to his eventual demise.
Although the trilogy is not strictly ... ...Michael as the head of the family.
The second, covering Michaels story...interspersed with flashbacks detailing how Don Vito rose to power.
The final film picks up where Michael himself is the aging Don....and brings the entire trilogy into the modern age....
The quality lies in both the standard of acting...(so lacking in many modern films that rely so heavily on cgi created effect....) and also the mood that the director manages to create through ...

I had never seen The Godfather until this week, I can't recall the last time it was on TV and I refuse to not watch any classics on video now until a dvd is available. So with Godfatherboxset in hand I sat down to watch the first in the acclaimed trilogy.
The Godfather is one of those films that will infuriate those who can't stand films that actually take their time in telling a story. At nearly three hours long it's takes a decent frame of mind to sit through. Some film's are way too long for their own good but this is one that needs to be that length and has a story that commands your attention from the opening minute.
Adapted from a book by Mario Puzo, this is the story of the Corleone family. A group of Italian Americans who have made it big through the world of organized crime. At the head of the family is Don Vito (Marlon ...
