There's no denying that The Godfather is an absolute classic. Based on Mario Puzo's book of the same name and released in 1972, it holds second place on the IMDb's list of the top 250 films, and scores a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It's such a good and famous film that many consider...

The Godfather is just as difficult for me to review as a writer as it was for me to watch as a movie lover. I have wrestled with my thoughts on numerous occasions, trying to decide the best way of beginning this review, in an attempt to do any possible justice to a true masterpiece of cinema...

ProBest Picture, best film of all time

ConsYou never get to watch it for the first time again

Life has a strange habit of bringing loose threads together in order to make a pretty bow. The threads of which I now speak began to present themselves a few months ago when the film magazine Empire unveiled The Godfather as the best film of all-time. This prompted me to consider it as my next...

Consmay be slow for the modern movie goer

I had never seen The Godfather until this week, I can't recall the last time it was on TV and I refuse to not watch any classics on video now until a dvd is available. So with Godfather box set in hand I sat down to watch the first in the acclaimed trilogy. The Godfather is one of those films...

The Corleones are America's most famous family, more than the Kennedys, the Bushes, even the Simpsons. If you have not seen this film then save yourself the shame and quietly go out in disguise and buy the video. Then watch it a dozen times, learn the important lines and you will be able to...

The fantastic, amazing story of the Corleone mafiosa family set in post war America, which became the benchmark film for so many gangster movies. The cast is one of the best ever assembled including, Marlon Brando as the "Godfather" of the title, Al Pacino as his son and a string of other stars...

ConsMay be too violent for some

Timeless. Immortal. Classic. Just three of the adjectives that most people affix to the film, The Godfather. Based on the book by Mario Puzo, this film set a standard in mobster movies that has yet been unsurpassed. Some have come close, but none have matched the mood, nor the authenticity, of...

Cons3 hours may be too long for some people

After reading Mario Puzo's "The Godfather" I was interested to watch the films to draw a comparison between the two. I bought the 25th anniversary videos from Virgin where they are currently available in the 5 videos for £30 offer. I would recommend them to anyone but one thing I would point out...

ConsAbsolutely None

Whenever I am asked what my favourite film is or even what I believe the best film of all time is the answer is the same – The Godfather. A close second would be The Godfather Part 2. Alas the third in the series would not be in my top 100. It is a benchmark by which all films can be judged...

The Godfather Ok, I must firstly warn you all that you are about to be bombarded with reviews on gangster films. I have been puzzling over a way to incorporate revision into Ciao (not easy, I can tell you lol), and I have finally struck gold. I am not a natural fan of gangster films. But being...

This is possibly the best film of all time. I have been a big fan of gangster films since a young age and had been dying to see this for years. Eventually I was able to purchase it on video. At first I was worried that the film may not be able to reach the expectations I had manifested in my mind...

ConsToo short at 167 minutes!!

It didn't get an oscar but The Godfather has to be one of the best mafia movies ever made. Goodfellas is good and Casino is a bit of a gamble but The Godfather is immortal. What makes it so special? The acting of Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert duvall and Richard Castellano brings...

Product Information : The Godfather (DVD)

Manufacturer's product description

Based on the best-selling novel by Mario Puzo (who co-wrote the screenplay with director Francis Ford Coppola), THE GODFATHER is an epic tale of Mafia life in America during the 1940s and '50s. Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) is the family patriarch balancing a love of his family with an ambitious criminal instinct. At the wedding of the Don's daughter Connie (Talia Shire), youngest son Michael (Al Pacino) is reunited with his family. After an assassination attempt leaves the Don too ill to run the family business, Michael and Sonny (James Caan), with the help of consigliere Tom Hagen (Robert Duvall), lead the Corleones into a vendetta-filled war with other mob families. Violent revenge ensues as the family tries to change from its old criminal ways into legitimacy. Diane Keaton, in a stark departure from her usual comedic roles, plays Kay, the long-suffering wife of Michael Corleone. Brilliant casting, music, and storytelling help make THE GODFATHER a classic.
