These male lions not only hunt together, they hunt for the sheer pleasure, killing workers in their hundreds in a space of a month or so. Val Kilmer plays John Patterson, a top engineer assigned to build a bridge in Africa, the land he loves and dreams of. On arrival to his new assignment he has already heard reports of attacks by lions, which has made the workers too scared to venture about their duties. After hunting one down and killing it, he's managed to reassure his labourers, so construction can finally begin. However he's killed a lion, but not the ones causing the mayhem, and it is not long before they feast on the unsuspecting community.
Soon realising he is dealing with lions which don't follow patterns of normal lions, especially two male lions hunting together which is un-heard of, and with his workers too scared to finish the bridge before the deadline, he's forced to acquire assistance. Help arrives in the form of hunter Charles Remmington played by Michael Douglas, a most experienced and some what legendary lion slayer. Together they must try and track down the lions, and kill them before more people are victims to their deadly claws. Will they mange to make the community safe again so they can finally finish building the bridge? Or will they also become the prey of the lions to whom the natives refer to as The Ghost And The Darkness?
My Views -
This is a truly amazing film. The acting is brilliance, and the true story of these events makes a great movie. Although there was very good acting amongst many of the cast names, Michael Douglas has a very strong presence on set, and personally I think it's one of his best roles ever. It has lots of drama and suspense, as well as being quite frightening. I was completely glued to this movie, as well of the rest of my party that were watching it with me. I am a big cat lover myself, and have a good background knowledge of them, and too know there were lions that actually behaved like this once apron a time is astonishing. Knowing that this is a true story and the outcome can be very unpredictable, gives it that very un-settling feeling, and you really don't know what too expect next.
The only disappointing part I found with this purchase was not the film itself, but that I would have liked to have seen more bonus features with it, especially more about the true life instances.

THE STORY GOES AS:
MICHAEL DOUGLAS and VAL KILMER star in this tense ,terrific movie!! the story goes intresting as the two lions shut down the construction going on a railway track..THESE TWO LIONS AS THE BEAST hunt together,they have no fear of man or fire..
they just kikll people for fun..i feel they have a supernatural knack of knowing about some trap awaiting them.DOUGLAS ,THE ... ...two beasts..finally succeed in killing the unstoppable monsters..

Advantages: sometimes scarey Disadvantages: predictable
When i watched thirteen ghosts my first thought was predictable and i could have written something similar during my dinner hour in work.
Okay there were some original scenes to it but it starts off with a familiar story line of a family inheriting the house! woo thats original, and the house is home to ,wait for it, thirteen ghosts who want to be freed from their abode,[ the creepy cellar like place ]. Well where else would you expect to find them?
Some of the ghosts are really mean dead people and their intentions are not honourable. In fact they do kill some family members, but not all of them. The remaining kin discover the way to lock the door previously allowing the ghosts to escape and in return live happily ever after somewhere else!!
I hope my review hasnt put you off wasting your money on purchasing a copy of this ...
Advantages: Scary in some parts, great special FX Disadvantages: Not everyone's taste
, the corridors and rooms are really creepy and this adds to the amotsphere for the film.
The sound on the DVD is quite well done and the Dolby 5.1 is made use of quite well, as in 'House on Haunted Hill' you can here strange noises on the rears giving you the feeling that there is something there with the salvages, music is used well and doesn't seem to overtake the voices of the actors.
The picture quality is superb, the colours are crisp and the dark areas are clear and not grainy or blocky.
There are a few special features on the DVD but nothing that really jumps out and says, "wow, look at me" these include:

Horror movies today are not scary. They are usually gore-fests, replacing blood, guts and violence for true chills. What is sad is that most so-called horror movies will not admit this. Well, 13 Ghosts wallows in the fact that it is trash, throwing in all of the above plus some nudity and self-deprecation.
