Of all the branches of the armed services of probably pretty much any country the air force is probably seen as one of the most glamorous, or perhaps even the most glamorous.
WorldWar2 In Colour, Air War, tells the true story (shown with actual live colour footage, filmed by combat cameramen) of the real story of the fighting aircraft of WorldWar2 and of their brave and dedicated aircrew and equally brave and dedicated ground support staff who, at great risk to themselves, kept the aircraft serviceable and fighting against the enemy Axis forces.
The image of the airman, smartly dressed in his flying suit, and flying free above the earth was only a small part of it. A very small part of it. For being an air combatant during WorldWar2 was often not much fun.

Advantages: Interesting to see colour footage Disadvantages: None, really
from 1930s Germany. And some examples of the evil propaganda films used by the Nazis during that time.
The programme then gave a rapid run through of how Germany and German civilians coped with the turning tide of WorldWarII, when the Germanwar machine crumbled, collapsed and fell.
American combat cameramen filmed the death camps (these films are shown in the programme) and the narrator (with a hint of a sneer in his voice) pointed out that "German civilians professed ignorance of the camps frightful work". (Incidentally, I knew a woman who, as a young girl, had been a very lowly placed civil servant in the Reichstag. She told me that she had had no idea of the existence of the death camps. And I have no reason to doubt her word.)
Allied troops forced German civilians to look at the camps and to dig graves there.

i know strictly speaking this review is only for volume 2 but as i did not buy the box set and got the world at war in 5 seperate parts. I have combined my review.
