time, Buster Keaton. An anti-heroic action-film with an anti-romantic love story, Keaton brings the film alive with his graceful style, wonderful sense of irony, brilliant gags and a rapt, love-lorn expression. Then, as a director (with Clyde Bruckman), he adds some superbly choreographed comic sequences, an accurate recreation of a Civil War escapade, hair-raising stunts, beautiful photography and an actual locomotive falling from a burning bridge into a deep gorge - pure genius. On this special DVD, the original film has been digitally restored - frame by frame - and is accompanied by a symphonic score written and recorded by Joe Hisaishi, one of modern cinema's leading composers.

the rails on the manual trolley and falls of his Penny Farthing while in pursuit of the enemy. The canon on the train is also great and timed to perfection. There's a lot of very clever and funny moments here which are typical of Keaton and there all brilliantly realized throughout this film. Authenticity of the period really could not be bettered either . Attention paid to detail is quite staggering which was always Keatons forte. The sequence on the bridge by the way , when it collapses and the train plunges into thirty feet of water , is all real....no special effects here....in fact even to this day that train still lies there......somewhere in ' Oregon ' i think ,where most of ' The General ' was filmed.
Excellent DVD transfer with fine extra's ....also featuring several of his great shorter works .Recommended!

Advantages: A superb script Disadvantages: Travolta is perhaps a little to larger than life
This film has sadly been missed by many viewers. John Travolta and Madalaine Stow star. Despite his excess bulk, Travolta puts in a pretty good performance in what is a fine piece of script writing.
The story begins with the discovery of the generals daughter tied to stakes in the ground, naked, spread eagled and very dead. Despite the appearance, she has not been raped. Travolta is placed on the case, fighting his way through the male dominated, majorly corrupt, and seriously close-knit army ways to get to the truth.
This film is a strange combination of crime thriller, moving drama and verging on romantic piece. It works extremely well. The scripts is quite superb, and contins one of the best dialogue sequences for a many a blue moon. Travolta and Stow do their jobs adequately, and without too much hollywood overacting.

Advantages: Multiplayer, nice animation, quirky Disadvantages: Pales into obscurity versus todays technology
I decided to write a review of this seeing as I've never met anyone else who has ever heard of this bar my own brother. we used to while away the time on this simplistic army game.
The game is named after one of the storyline's main General's. The conflict in question is between the blue forces of 'General Chaos' and the red troops of 'General Havoc.'
The game is a very cartoony offering from EA, released in 1994 on SEGA Mega Drive. It is a mulitplayer compatible game and two players can play either co-op or against each other, and if I'm not mistaken, it was also possible to play 4 player with use of the special multiplayer pads.
I no longer own this game and as a result am reviewing this from hazy childhood memory. The two main game modes are firstly a kind of 'campaign mode' where players compete against the computer for specific ...

DVD Description
Brendan Gleeson stars as Martin Cahill, the leading Irish criminal of the 1980s. A protean figure, Cahill was a man of extraordinary intelligence, obsessive secretiveness, and vicious brutality who was never stopped by the Irish police despite having pocketed more than $60 million of other people's money. He was also capable of generosity to those in need and exuded a contagious joie de vivre that made him a hero to Ireland's poor and working-class population. Born into poverty in the slums of Hollyfield, Cahill ends up in reform school after robbing a local merchant. Given his abilities, his rise in the world of crime is swift, abetted by a violent streak that has him nailing a partner to a pool table when he mistakently suspects him of talking to the cops. His creative domestic arrangements have him married to Frances (Maria Doyle Kennedy) while also begetting children with her sister, Tina (Angeline Ball). Although he enjoyed mocking every form of authority from the church and the government to the IRA, he had an unspoken bond with police inspector Ned Kenny (Jon Voight), who curses himself for allowing this latter-day Celtic chieftain to charm even a cop. A completely engrossing film anchored by the brilliant Gleeson and a terrific supporting cast, THE GENERAL was shot by director John Boorman in colour and printed in crisp black and white.
