where to start. I bought the dvd, i had the movie on video, but i wanted the quality that the dvd offers, to keep. This is a classic movie, made in england, set in england, with british actors. It ranks high on my list of classics, such as trainspotting, lock stock and two smoking barrels.
The film is set in the area of sheffield, known for hardship in lots of cases, and your typical english city. A group of men, mostly unemployed, struggling with their wives and girlfriends and kids.
The opening scenes, well the beginning of the film, do set the whole movie up, and does endear to you to watch the film out. The main character, the lush robert carlyle, comes up with the idea of making some fast and easy money. Mainly for him to support his son and the others have their reasons. So off he goes to recruit a group of men, probably the most sorry looking bunch you would find, but who make it all come together in the end. Roberts character does start to question himself and what hes doing, and this part of the story is very touching, but he does come right and brings a tear to your eye.
The catch, performing one night only in a bar, a full monty strip, that is, taking everything off. So now they set about running round different locations trying to get fitter. The scenes with the auditions is funny, and some of the names of the characters do make you laugh, like Horse (paul barber). They set about practicing their routines, with many hiccups and fall outs along the way. I wont give the plot so as not to spoil it for those who havent watched. But one scene that will make you laugh is when theyre caught practising by the police.
The trick is they are trying to do it all in secret, keeping from their families, and this leads to quite a few hilarious moments. They may not be the most gorgeous of blokes, but the move to do the full monty is what gains the interest for the one night, where they hope to make enough money.
This movie is hilariously funny, touching at times too. Its quite fast paced, and theres no wanting to go get a cuppa part way through because your bored.
i like to think this is the movie that pushed robert carlyle into his movie career and he does play the main character exceptionally well. The twist with two of the dancers, one a so called ""bird magnet"" is quite funny too.
Even if you have seen this movie, go buy the dvd, this is a classic that will always be watchable and loved by many. Maybe i could have given more here, but this isnt the type of movie you give the storylines about, its one to watch and enjoy yourself, with a recommendation.
The dvd itself is an excellent price, good value for money, you may find cheaper other places depending where you go. I personally loved the colour of the cover, it stands out in my dvd shelf. Depending which dvd, you will get some extra credits about the cast and the making, a friend bought one which doesnt have these on. So check which version you do buy. The quality of the actual dvd i cannot fault. Like some made here, they can turn out just like videos sometimes, not sure why. But this is top quality, and long lasting . The movie is great for all the family to enjoy, even you men.

Hi, welcome to Ciao and great start, but if you want higher ratings, you could add more opinion about the film, maybe put in a scene setting, where there any extras on the dvd? if there were, what were they and what did you think of them? and more information about the film is always helpful (if you only want to do a review on the film itself, rather than the dvd, you can go into edit review and near the bottom there will be a scroll down menu that says what are you reviewing or something like that and you can change this to 'film only' ) Please let me know if you update this review and i will re-rate.
