The Fly is a horror/science fiction film directed by David Cronenberg. The screenplay was written by Charles Edward Pogue and David Cronenberg, which was based on a story written by George Langelaan. The film was released in 1986. This is a loose remake of the 1958 film The Fly, starring Vincent Price. A sequel was made to this film, called The Fly 2.
This film is about Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum), a scientist researching the field of matter teleportation. He manages to successfully get his research to work, but after trying to teleport himself, he is inadvertently transported along with a fly. This proves to be a disaster as his genes are fused with that of the fly's and he mutates into a hideous monster. Brundle must attempt to reverse the mutation, but struggles in this endeavour. Genna Davis plays Brundle's love interest, journalist Veronica Quaife (Geena Davis).
The supporting cast includes John Getz and David Cronenberg.
This is a creepy film with outstanding make-up for Goldblum's monster. Cronenberg manages to achieve the right balance so that we feel both pity and loathing for Goldblum's character. Goldblum is great as the flawed scientist who is determined but ultimately doomed in his quest. This is fantastic film that deserves to be watched by everyone.
