"Three women, whose husbands have dumped them to take up with younger women, decide to get their own back..."
This is the story of 3 women, reunited by the death of an old school friend. Brenda (Bette Midler), Elise (Goldie Hawn), and Annie (Diane Keaton) are in there 40's, having just been dumped my there husbands for younger women they decide to get there own back.
The story starts with 4 friends graduating from school where they agree to always stay friends, the campagne glasses clink and there the story moves forward to when the women are in their 40's and the first scene shows Cynthia (Stockard Channing) committing suicide, due to her husbands departure, the story then moves on to show you the three other women's separate lives, Annie (a ditzy housewife), Elise (an out of work actress) and Brenda (also seems to be a housewife) and how their lives take a turn for the worst when there husbands leave them for younger more attractive women.
The three women then happen to meet at Cynthia's funeral and after a few drinks decide that its time to get justice….all three join forces and decide to get revenge on their husbands, basically by taking away their freedom, this all starts well and the husbands are really getting what they deserve, but after a while cracks form in their friendship they begin to wonder why they're really doing this and start to look at the bigger picture.
I loved this film, It very girly, funny and uplifting, just my thing (sad I know), the three main actresses are great especially Diane Keaton, she does a great job a playing Annie, the klutzly, shy, apologizing nerd (and I love what happens to her in the end) and I've always loved Bette Midler and Goldie Hawn two old(ish) actresses I always love to watch. Sarah Jessica Parker Plays the role of Morty's girlfriend and its interesting to watch her in a role other than the famous Sex in the Citys's Carrie Bradshaw.
As for the husbands, Morty (Dan Hedaya), Bill (Victor Garber), and Aaron (Stephen Collins), their parts were pretty basic and routine but they were overall enjoyable to watch.
This film is in no way a cinematic masterpiece, more a light hearted chick flick, great for those girly nights in, I watched it with my new flatmate, Rich I don't think he was too impressed mind you, so I wouldn't recommend it to the fellas.
I absolutely loved the ending, when all three women sing together, sounds abit odd, but I absolutely love that song…."You Don't Own Me" it really finishes the film off on a high.
I would defiantly recommend this film to all the ladies, especially if your feeling a little down about men! ; )
